Who decides what is "optimum". You? Firemage? A spreadsheet? A simulator? Some guy on a website? There IS no standard because the definition of "optimum" veers wildly from person to person.
You're very clearly either missing the other poster's point entirely or willfully misinterpreting it. The point is that there is more to a parse then the damage. It lets you know where other mistakes happened so they can be fixed in future pulls. For example, there is a site that will analyze your parse and tell you if you didn't keep your GCD rolling or if you messed up some combos or whatever. Which should be valuable learning tools. At the same time, if you're in some high stakes raid guild, you could look at the parse and see incoming damage to plan where to use mitigations or heals or whatever is needed for the encounter.

Acting like parses exist exclusively for the rank number and nothing else is sheer foolishness.
