I mean, since I am brazilian and know a thing or two about english (not much, but enough... i guess), I recently started to use an addon for translations inside game (Tataru helper) which can translate for a LOT of languages not covered officially by the team (despite their promisses in the past about translating to more languages). Now I can understand Urianger talkings

So, i was thinking if the dialogues would be different if I keep my game in another language. And you helped me!

I'll rewatch all cutscenes keeping my game in french and translating it directly to portuguese after seeing this thread! The dialogues seems a lot more better than in english

I play the game with Japanese voices, and the English translation has always been made up like this, from even ARR days. I remember them apologising for butchering Haurchefant's real personality and scenes, and promising that they'd be more careful from that moment on... but I don't see that things have changed at all.

You speak Japanese fluently then? Or are you commenting on the length of the voice acting, versus the length of the translation?

I truly hate the localization team of this game.

Probably kind of pointless to ask in these forums cause of the fear going on but...

Does anyone know of a fan translation of the entire script of FF14? That maybe has some way of being placed on my computer screen in the places the localized text would show up in game?

Well, this would be a ToS infraction, sadly...

You should go for an addon like the one I use (Tataru Helper), put the game in another language and translate all dialogues to the desired language (english, for ex.).

This way, maybe you will get a better result than the localized official english version.

This addon uses google translation to translate any text from dialogues (or chats) in game to a lot of language options.

The downside is the side box with the text it creates instead of the official box for them. There is another addon for that, but it causes annoying lags at each change in the text page, so I prefer Tataru helper :3

I still dislike how they neutered Haurchefant, which I guess is why my signature is the way it is.

Not very fluently, but my Japanese is enough to understand many things and see how the translations are often very different. Sometimes, opposite, even.

One of my favourite, which I ranted about with my friend... The Exarch opening his eyes slowly as he wakes up from a dream. You are the very first thing he sees and he's surprised, disoriented, as if his mind had accepted that you weren't supposed to be actually there (too good to be true?). Or at least that's how it is in Japanese...

JAPANESE:
"Eh...? You... Why are you...?"

TRANSLATION:
"THE FUTURE IS WHERE MY DESTINY AWAITS : D"

?????? ...I don't even know what that was about, but what a random way to destroy the intimacy of a scene.

They also said they were cutting the dungeons per patch to one for "polish" and said they were going to flesh out the squadron system. That's not apologizing for a bad translation, that's an apology because they got caught "localizing", lol.

And yeah, I know... I wish I don't be in need of such stuff, but the game devs seems to be not trustfull about their own promisses...

They promissed more languages to the game and we had nothing so far.
