And you have no evidence of the frequency of which you have had to deal with it
Since I started gaming ( started the late 80's,, ahh yes, the days of Telnet and ASCII BBS interfaces....), along with my 8 years in WOW and other MMO's, I have gone through I think maybe 6 computers, maybe 13 to 20 hard drives, every OS from DOS 6.22 OS through WIN 95, 98, 2000, CE, XP , at least three to four linux distros incl Fedora and Ubuntu...so you will forgive me when I say i dont keep decades worth of screenshots, voice recordings etc.

    Do you?

( BTW word of advice, the next time someone tells you to get a surge protector...do it. I had never seen a computer fire off sparks and smoke like that. YIKES.)

    and lack of video
You didnt read that article, did you

You can’t watch the video at this point, as it has been taken down at the request of Square-Enix, but the GM handling the case specifically teleported his character to Mordion Gaol (the game’s holding area for people being punished)
    and from Reddit:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comme...tm_term=ec89mh

There is, but he was told to delete it or they would make his punishment worse. I think a link to it was posted elsewhere in this thread. There was absolutely no harrassment in-game. He was vocally rude, but only in voice on his stream.
Believe whatever you like. Changes nothing.

And yet, in the year of 2022 with everything we do online being tracked and recorded, there's just the incident from 2019 you can put forward.

I find that most people that complain about these things, use them. How many times ive done a savage clear with someone who swares they don't use stuff and they don't have push to talk on, and you hear the warnings.

Half the time people who say they dont use stuff were never asked, they just feel like they need to emphasize it to feel like a chad that no one cares about at this stage of gameing.

who cares if people use it or not, no one is a complete purist. if it doesn't affect you, why does it matter. There is just some fights if you dont meet X amount of dps you will never beat the enrage the tool is usefull for that, other than that who cares?

i would support a in game combined group dps meter to see weather or not time is wasted on the fight. If that would be a compromise =p Like total tallied.

I don't see the harm in having a DPS Meter for personal use and keeping your parse to yourself.

But then FFLogs shows up and it becomes a dong measuring contest and people start getting nasty.

If I had any faith in the community to not beat each other over the head with Parse Logs and not to start excluding others unless they have a near-perfect parse i'd say it sounds like a great idea.

But I have no faith in the community so it's a Hell No.

Thees an old adage thats been proven time and time again

"If it can be abused and misused, it will be".

Along with its corollary: again time honoured:

"This is why we cant have nice things"

Players these days dont care about their group. They want to get through the content with no or minimal effort. Tanks dont want to tank. Healers dont want to do damage. DPS dont want to press more than 1 button. As long this mentality wont change, a DPS-meter or something similiar is neccessary.

But it hasnt be a full dps meter. It would be enough to have at least a result screen at the end of a dungeon or raid. For Savage, Ex and Ultimate, between each pull.

Until then, I m going to silently kick everyone who refuse to do their job.

    1. Unnecessary. I've never needed to know my damage to defeat an enrage, even in week 1. Our party just presses buttons a little better or goes out and buys pots.
    2. It's meant to be a chill game that you play for fun and not worry too much about a number. Yoshi-P said words to this effect. He thinks you should be able to just play around with your class and have fun instead of feeling pressured.
    3. Even if your numbers are private, because you can still see them, they are still there for you to compare your damage with others and it will pressure you and take the fun out of the game.
    4. It will reduce the fear people have of discussing DPS inside the game because the information came from inside the game. It will be used to harass others, especially those who chose to make it public. They may get pressured to make it public as well.

In other news, there is no technical debt from 1.0.
"We don't have ... a technological issue that was carried over from 1.0, because ARR was meant to kind of discard what we had from 1.0 and rebuild it from the engine."

Do you want to actively engage in player griefing? Because those are actually the requirements for setting up the scenario for it in Savage, EX, and even in normal dungeons(only in rare circumstances for dungeons).

A DPS Meter IS NOT necessary. If they fail to meet the requirements of the game, let them fail. People do not get better until they fail and learn. Some refuse to learn, and continue to fail. Even when you give advice they fail. There are people who are like this and probably are horrible at the game, but I'm not about adding a End Results screen showing Damage because it's still a measuring tool - just like The Site That Shall Not Be Named.

First thing first, why do you want official damage meter in the game, that's the question.

if: you want it to see your very own numbers only.
That'd be pretty much pointless. How does the number matters if you don't know the average and how you do compared to the average? It shows you number, it doesn't tell you whether you're doing it right or not and where to fix. You need target of comparison to know how you're doing. And I'm 100% sure you'll get bunch of ppl automatically consider ppl who set theirs on private as "not good enough to be shown on public", which is one risk of toxicity (gatekeeping, at minimum).
Example, let's say we got this feature ranking your DPS and you got an "C". Party wiped on enrage. Ppl start asking each others' dps and everyone's DPS rank. Will you be able to say that you're C when everyone's B? And will you believe it when ppl claim that they're A? Or that they're higher than you even when they died once? What would you think when someone goes "I'm not telling you my numbers but I guarantee you I'm doing good"?
"Private" setting doesn't help, it just won't work.

if: You can't clear content without DPS meter.
It's not about DPS meter to begin with. DPS meter shows plain DPS numbers. It doesn't show you the fight's mech nor why you die (and I'm assuming you don't need any DPS meter to know if someone died or not mid fight).
It may show you "who" lacks the numbers and causes the enrage, but then what? Tell them to DPS more? If they can they'd have done it. Kick them from the party? That's exactly what the dev want to avoid.

Here I'm assuming that the "DPS meter" mentioned here is basically "a feature to show your DPS numbers" and nothing more. Nothing logs, nothing analysis, nothing to show rotation nor timeline, no timer nor mods, nothing.

Now back to the main question, if you get this DPS meter, how would it be of your use? Do you actually need it?
