You all did wait! That's the problem! Almost three years you all waited! This is what you got for all that time. Maybe by 2026 you guys can get some hairstyles that include ears!
You know entire games can be built in LESS time than it took them to come out with a handful of styles for hrothgar?
Yeah, like this game. They remade it entirely in less time than Hroths and Viera have been waiting for a basic feature.
The thing is, i could kind of understand if this was the work of an indie company(no meme intended this time), but this is a literal billion dollar company, that has seen supposedly the most player retention and sales highs than ever before. So why are we seeing less effort being put in and just…overall bad decisions? Between the hrothgar hairs, content overall, jobs being gutted and cut down…what is going on? At this point i’m starting to believe the factor here really is Yoshi P just being more invested in FF16 and just kind of done with this game. The laughter at Hroth players was essentially the nail in the coffin.
This game, from what I've heard, is pretty much SE's only big moneymaker. It just feels like the more popular this game has gotten, the worst it gets. I feel like they think people will just stick around, because it's FFXIV. That players won't question design decisions, because it's Yoshida, or whatever else. The thing is, i could kind of understand if this was the work of an indie company(no meme intended this time), but this is a literal billion dollar company, that has seen supposedly the most player retention and sales highs than ever before. Absolutely true. It's not like building an encounter that can literally take months or an entire expansion that takes two years...it's just giving us some hairstyles. 3 years and this is what they have to show for it? Inexcusable. You all did wait! That's the problem! Almost three years you all waited! This is what you got for all that time. Maybe by 2026 you guys can get some hairstyles that include ears!

How much you guys wanna bet that if there wasn't such a large uproar over this situation, then they would have left it as is?
Billion yen, maybe. The thing is, i could kind of understand if this was the work of an indie company(no meme intended this time), but this is a literal billion dollar company, that has seen supposedly the most player retention and sales highs than ever before. That said them charging 40 bucks for a whale mount should've been more than enough to hire one or two full-time devs considering the average dev gets paid aproximately half that hourly in Japan. A little more or a little less depending on position and benefits.
Which is part of my issue. I know people who fanta 5-6 times a month. This isn't a money issue. It never was a money issue. It isn't even a code issue because, again, this is client side nonsense.
This is "we decided to ignore the problem". This is what caused 1.0's developmemt hell. All problems could be fixed later. All features can be added later. All bugs, graphical issues and glitches would be fixed later.
It's concerning because it isn't just hair. Housing, PVP, instances/dungeons. Everything will be fixed later. Everything will be ironed out later.
I played 1.0. I quite literally abandoned my account because of how bad it was but when I saw the effort put into ARR I decided it was worth returning even if it meant buying it again. What I'm seeing is similar to what I saw back then.
Of course it isn't as bad because the game at least /functions/... for the time being.
FFXIV (2.0) is the game that dragged SE out of the mud and saved it from destined bankruptcy literally. And the overwhelming credits for that go to Yoshi P. clearly, which explains also why they let him rise so fast in the company ranks up to the position he is in at the moment. This game, from what I've heard, is pretty much SE's only big moneymaker. But yeah, the big reason for XIV getting more casual and tries to appeal to more and more audiences is probably cause shareholders like when stuff grows and XIV showed extreme potential.
If you want to observe this btw you can google for the Square Enix stock and look at how the graph goes up and down on different dates. And then look up when expansions hit and XIV patches and keep in mind that this isn't the XIV stock but the whole big japanese gaming company. XIV has a huge gigantic influence on the stock.
I'm glad Yoshi-P addressed the wig issue. I'll be expecting my new beastial hairstyles in the mail by 6.2, the latest.
Except he really didn't say anything of substance.
"Yeah, we hear you, and we might do something about it at some point if you guys want."
If anything that makes me even more annoyed. He was super dismissive about it.
