People keep bringing this (and other novelty outfits) up as the reason why gear types are irrelevant but it's not an equal comparison.

Tanks' proper gear style is armour. Healers gear style is robes.

A tank can wear armour or casual. A healer can wear robes or casual. The degree of armour playing on an outfit is not directly relevant.

There is armored healing gear and tank gear that is robes already though. This tier's raid gear and the current crafted set is mostly made from cloth. The tome gear all has some flavor of armor on it. Heck, the scouting and casting chest piece share a model. It's not just gag gear.

And why does "proper" gear type matter anyway? We have magic prisms that can make us look like pretty much whatever we want anyway. People being able to wear gag and casual stuff isn't the same as native models being in different styles, sure, but that doesn't make it irrelevant.

If it's not relevant then why does your tank have to wear armour and your healer a robe?

You're misunderstanding my point. I mean it's irrelevant that casual gear and healer gear are both lightly armoured. That does not make them the same thing.

Right now, both roles have the same choice of [their gear] or [casual gear], even though what counts as "their gear" is different.

Saying that because tanks can replace [their gear] with [casual gear] means that healers should be able to replace [their gear] with [tank gear] is not logically an equal trade, regardless of whether you think they should be able to or not.

I've only played FFXIV for a year and just by looking at the gear from expansion to expansion I can tell that things have changed dramatically from Heavensward until now. I'm yet to see any good arguments against removing the glam restrictions. FFXIV and it's players only stand to gain from such a change.

-agreed all races AND jobs should be open for everyone, NO RESTRICTIONS.

-everything should be converted to be dyeable , all dungeon gear past and present, all mogstation npc look a like gear..I mean EVERYTHING.

-implement dyes that ignore material type when dying. I don't buy ruby red to get maroon..sorry thats just crapola.

Glamour is just a magical illusion,by that logic some glams might require you to be high enough level because it's harder to pull off (i guess?) but other than that, there's no reason why a tank can't wear a healer's robe and vice versa. It would confuse people, sure, but in the middle of battle you don't notice this just flashy effects everywhere with nameplates somehow escaping it. I understand gender restrictions, it's hard to make glam for both male and females after all, but if it's already done, why limit? Weapons excluded obviously. I do like the WHM dresses but I can see how people dislike them lol

It matters cause YoshiP said so, and has stuck by it.

Healers don't get to wear heavy tank jackets like Edenmorn.

The most armor-like healers ever had was light armor or chain mail, the best healer top in the game is still the Alex Creator chest. Nothing else has ever been heavy armor for healer or caster.

Except that he hasn't, because of the plethora of NPC's that ignore the restrictions.

Law's Order Healing Set is a plate set. Also as GrizzlyTank mentioned, the fact that Healers have shared gear with tanks before remains (Gazelleskin coat for example) Why is it fine for tanks to wear light armor but healers can't use heavier armor ?
