Not only did they lessen SMN's DoT-based abilities over-time, they also made it VERY convenient to apply.

Heavensward:
-Tri-Disaster applies ALL of SMN's DoTs in one press of a button.

Stormblood:
-There's now only 2 main DoTs to apply
-Those 2 DoTs now have even timers, and timers increased to 30s.
-Dreadwyrm Trance refreshes Tri-Disaster
-Contagion is now a magic vulnerability debuff (and now we have a less tedious way to extend DoTs)
-Shadow Flare is instant-cast
-Miasma II was removed

Shadowbringers:
-Firebird Trance/ Demi-Phoenix refreshes Tri-Disaster (so now you hard-cast DoTs every what? 1-2 mins?)
-Shadow Flare was removed

There's absolutely little reason for people to be complaining about DoTs being annoying to apply and track during Stormblood days. Even a casual like me can do that no problem.
For me it was the poisons not the DoTs that were the problem. It had always felt like an odd choice for summoner’s main spells to be bio and miasma. There was zero connection to the primals.

I get that summoners come from arcanist, but even arcanist using poisons doesn’t even really fit. This is SE’s description of arcanist:

“Adepts of the art of arcanum derive their might from symbols of power born of geometric techniques hailing from across the southern seas. Held within occult grimoires, these symbols lend shape to the arcanist's aether, thereby allowing him to produce myriad powerful spells. Using the selfsame symbols to unlock the latent power contained within gemstones, arcanists are also able to summon forth the familiar known as Carbuncle to carry out their bidding.“

Poison doesn’t exactly scream powerful spell to me lol.
