The best summoning has ever been in XIV (imo) was SB demi Bahamut. It was involved, novel, and built up to interestingly. Its biggest failing was it was exceedingly poorly communicated how to optimise Wyrmwaves, and the AI needed an update (which it got in ShB). Look at demi Bahamut now, basically a big shiny Rook Turret (at least Rook costs gauge). What a travesty. The means to the end (Demi) didn't need to stay DoTs and Ruins and could have been smaller summons even, but they should not have become this low effort simulacrum of what a Summoner could be in XIV.

I have already forgotten old SMN in the context of what new SMN should be, but that doesn't stop new SMN from being a brain-rottingly vapid and lifeless corpse of a job. We've already had far more delicious bites, but the development team decided to forgo putting together a cohesive meal in favour of god knows what. SCH episode 2? Reaper? Why take on the responsibility of reworking a job that you can't do justice whether it be due to time constraints or, worse, falling into the same trap of design paralysis claimed to have plagued every other iteration? Unacceptable.

Hey, if you don't want that Bahamut, MCH will gladly take it.
At least you give orders to Bahamut, you press and forget the Rook Turret/Automaton queen.

You give one order, enkindle, as for other buttons you press during a demi it's 1 6 times, energy drain, and 2 festers (on average). I don't play MCH but I understand your burst is more involved, and you very rarely have to use Queen Overdrive manually? Looking at the ability Crowned Collider could have been an enkindle-esque button, I don't know about popular opinion, but it sounds like a cool possibility to me.

Either way that was exactly what I enjoyed about SB Bahamut, 2 enkindles and the different trigger for Wyrmwaves made your burst phase feel extremely involved and in tandem with the summon (compared to now), and you were rewarded significantly for the optimal execution.

The level of "order" you give Bahamut now is the same as Automaton Queen. Actually, at least with queen you can manipulate gauge level and plan ahead to hit most raid buffs with it. Bahamut you can't even do that, it's press and forget.

The only thing we really order it to use is Akh Morn. You know what Bahamut reminds me of: Evan from Maplestory. I haven't played that game in years, but I remember Evan worked the same way. You played the character, and the dragon followed you around and casted spells, while you just pointed it in the right direction, but the Summoner can cast spells too. Although, the old Bahamut worked more like that as his spell casts were synced up with yours.
