I could see it going three ways.

    1. He's dead like you think.

    2. He's not dead, but will have to find a long way home.

    3. He's dead, but the Voidsent now possesses his body ala Reaper Questline antagonist. Next time we see him, he's a Voidsent in Zenos wrappings that is interested in us because it wants to omnomnomnom on our super soul.

I was sick of him before EW and felt like his scenes were going to drag, but they redeemed him character wise for me. I find myself hoping he's not dead so I can see where they take him. I don't really want a "redemption" arc but we've already done the frenemy thing a bit. And I would like to see answers about a lot of questions there still are surrounding him.

If they are going to bring people back, I'd prefer if they took the reincarnation route. And no, I don't mean someone brought him back to life through sorcery. When I say reincarnation, I mean like actually reborn as a new person. Maybe we met some couple somewhere who has a newborn and we just sense Zenos' soul within. The baby crying and then smiles seeing the Warrior of Light in front of them and like grabs our finger all cutely. As we smile to each other almost like deep down, we just know it's each other. Probably still tacky but I'd rather they do this than keep him alive as is. Especially if they want him to go through a redemption.

So why should we suddenly adopt their name for it? Just because they told us? We don't use Gaia, Jöro, Ki, Geb or Tierra as names for our Earth just because people in the past called it that.
The simplest out-of-story reason is that it has always seemed unnecessarily confusing to have both Hydaelyn the planet and Hydaelyn the goddess, and it's easier to have separate names for them.

That said, it's not necessary as the goddess no longer exists.

So were the Scions ... and Y'shtola did her standard expansion sacrifice already.

And they're all back, then Zenos can come back as well.

But that's just it, only recently was Hydaelyn the goddess actually revealed (only after the Calamity), before then virtually no one knew she even existed (Minfilia's original pre-Scions organization the Path of the Twelve thought it was a member of the Twelve who granted the Echo for instance), but knew the name 'Hydaelyn' as only the planet's name (she was never shown in 1.0, only very vaguely alluded to as "the Land's alive" in the lyrics for Answers and a cryptic reference by the Archons at the end of the last 'pre Yoshi-developed' story quest to seek out "the One" who granted the Echo, as they (the player) "could be granted so much more" (presumedly alluding to the Blessing of Light).

To the common person in the street, if they know the world as anything other than "the world" or "the star" it would be only "Hydaelyn", so to suddenlly go around calling it 'Etheirys" to a random person in the street would just grant odd looks. Really the only reason the Archons suddenly started using the Ancient term after having called it Hydaelyn was because the loporrits called it that as they knew no different (as they didn't even know the world had changed considerably and their information was extremely out of date), and needed to be able to be understood, and I guess they just kept calling it that given the loporrits were working closely with the Scions and Sharlayan from then on.

I guess it's one of those situations now where old habits die hard and I will still continue to call it 'Hydaelyn' if only out of stubbornness (even the main FFXIV site still calls it that under 'Story', so it's clear, like calling it 'the Source', use of the 'Etheirys' name would be situational (and specific to the story post EW) with 'Hydaelyn' still used generally. Or at least, that's how it seems to me).

I think you're agreeing with me.

I am of the opinion that the new (or older, in this case) name is not necessary because there would be no confusion for the name Hydaelyn moving forward.
