Final Fantasy 14 Players trying WOW?

I browse the WoW forums and fan forums.

WoW players do not care about FFXIV. You barely see anyone say "I'm leaving for WoW!", and if someone does say that then maybe 1 or 2 people reply ande say "well good for you", shrug, and move on with their lives. FFXIV has very little appeal to WoW players.

XIV threads pop up every once in a while, but more in regard to unique boss OSTs and "Anyone remember the time before Chromie Time, when we actually had a (rough but) complete story?" to which most will answer somewhere along the likes of "Yeah, but I don't miss it enough to give up faster alt leveling."

It's also funny though that anytime someone gives a memey "Nah, weeb game," their own community is quick to remind them they play a game with bipedal cows, werewolves, fighting pandas, and space demons who stab planets with clearly anime-inspired swords.

I do see people say WoW gets dumbed down to fit on a controller every once in a while. Usually have at least one person point of FF14 has had more actions and controller support in expacs like Heavensward.

Cannot change the title but any other mmorpgs people can recommend i like dot classes/necromancer style? I dont think I want to pay to support anything

I was a massive fan of Affliction Warlock when I played WoW; it's all about DoTs with a few hard spells slung here and there. If they have a free trial, it's certainly worth checking out even if it's just through the original game.

It's the FFXIV community that has an inferiority complex to WoW and can't stop mentioning it in every other breath.

I used to be a religious purveyor of WoW forums for 1-2 years. I think everyone who wanted to leave the game has left it by now, because back when I was looking there every day (been 6 months or so now) many, many threads would pop up with people complaining about the game with titles proclaiming their departure - at the same time, they'd get plenty of negative replies saying how this wasn't an airport, how they were toxic and it's a good riddance, and how no one cares, etc. I was active on the EU side also which was no better.

Can I just mention as an aside that splitting NA and EU forums behind paywalls is incredibly stupid?

There are a lot of systems in wow that will be hard to comprehend for newer players.

FF is relatively simple when it comes to endgame, finish MSQ, get some gear, meld your gear, done.

In wow upon hitting max level, you get some gear and then start campaigns to level up multiple systems, legendaries, covenants, gem sockets, zone campaigns, all of which are weekly locked. The amount of investment to “get caught” up after hitting max level is quite a bit.

In ffxiv 580 is 580.

In wow 580 does not equal 580 if you haven’t put in serious time leveling up the side systems that greatly affect your power.

You could literally perform 50% less than someone with similar gear because your missing all the “borrowed power” systems.

Let alone, most of those systems are weekly gated which makes it tough to ever truly “catch up” if you haven’t been completing your chores every week.

Oh so you finally got caught up after a month of serious grinding. But now you want to try a different role/class. Guess what, you gotta start from nothing and redo the entire catch up grind and now it’s even further behind.

Oh man... WoW is FINALLY bringing Flying back yet again only they made it into up to a month (or more if you don't log in every day doing dailies/tech) to unlock. By then the Zone is 110% complete thus Flying there is pointless.

WoW doesn't respect your time, TC. Don't bother with WoW until it gets its storytelling fixed and starts respecting their players time.

Retail wow is ehh i'd recommend trying the trial if your going to alternatively there may or may not be a fairly cool private server called ascention for WoW out there good for fooling around in

I'm one of those who played WoW long before playing FF14.

Modern WoW is a lot of fun. The WoW forums/reddit/etc. are cesspits, but the game itself is really enjoyable. Mythic+ dungeons, raids, etc. are great, and modern WoW is design for people to play without having to no-life the game.

Give it a try!

Absolute Chocobo shite. WoW Devs only care about engagement, how much time people play the game for. Loot systems are needlessly punishing, mandatory borrowed power grinds, overly-punishing lockouts on obsolete content...

World of Warcraft does not respect your time, or its own content in any way that can even come close to being called "fun" and you can sink multiple raid lockouts and not get anything, or spend a week spamming M+ and only get ONE drop, from your weekly pity cache.

Don't bother with WoW until it gets its storytelling fixed

The issue with the story telling is after what they did in Cata the story became such a disconnected mess there's no way to salvage it, even before then the story telling was never that great from Blizzard. It's most likely nostalgia that convinces people they can; all modern Actiblizzion wants to do is butcher what they had. Although I found it amusing to run into the then Horde warchief as a shmuck when I started Wrath's content.
