Less than fixing the servers, that's for sure, Mr S-E accountant. That's why they chose to leave tens of thousands of people to rot in queues for weeks rather than fix their problems ages ago. /shrug

How? How could they have fixed them? Please tell us. I'm sure SE would love to know so they can do it now.

Since I already know that you don't HAVE a way they could have done it because there ISN'T a way they could have done it...let me help you:

Prior to the mass exodus of WoW players, FFXIV was incredibly stable and didn't have any issues. Each expansion has an initial rush and queues, but that's the nature of MMOs and the amount of players trying to play at the same time goes down quickly. You don't add servers for something like that because then you have to get rid of them after and that creates whole new levels of problems.

So the wow exodus hit FFXIV and slammed their playerbase to record levels. They did this during a pandemic. A pandemic which has seen massive semi-conductor shortages which means they can't get the server architecture they need. Not only that, but just having the people to work on things like server infrastructure requires traveling, export, import, etc that is ALL suffering delays on TOP of the semi-conductor shortage.

And THEN you also have an expansion that everyone wants to play which means that new massive, much-more-than-before population all want to play at the exact same time. And the servers cannot handle it.

Since they cannot simply buy new servers to pick up the slack and they straight up announced this prior to the expansion launch so we would all know what was going to happen BEFORE the expansion even launched....what would you have had them do that doesn't require clairvoyance to let them know both a mass exodus from WoW and a global pandemic would hit them at the same time as when it was time for their expansion?

We are near the server capacity since ShB launch.
Half of our world do not allow new character since ShB
our daily since EW is something like queue at 5pm and might get into game by 9pm if we are lucky. Unless for those who do not work 9-5 that could queue early in the morning

I mean, there's not much they can do about that. At most, I think they can look into the 2002 errors. It would be nice to be able to do other things while you're in queue without fear of losing your spot. 6k queues, however, are to be expected for the new expansion of a popular MMO. I suppose they could make more servers assuming the shortage ends any time soon, but if you watch Nerdslayer on YouTube you'll know why that may not be a good idea.

That is why they could for temp reasons just rent some servers until for a while the base calms down. Not hard to rent servers then it is to go buy them

The queue existing is a good thing. Means there are so many players wanting to get in that they have to wait.

Not saying you are wrong, but how do you know the server hardware they need is available to rent? Not everything runs off the same type of server hardware. By the dev posts, it very much seems like the type of hardware they need, just isn't available in any form. YoshiP even stated they had to bring in their backup development machines and use them to bolster the log in servers.

None of us know exactly what type of hardware the game's servers actually are. Sure we can critique until the cows come home, but honestly it probably isn't even an option for them.

Renting server space for SE is not as easy as say an NA developer, because they are based in Japan. Not to mention they have extremely high standards for there servers. Which is both a benefit with the fact that the game itself even though constantly congested has had very little downtime, and a detriment because there is simply not enough space for everyone.

Good for S-E maybe. Not really good for the people who are sitting in queues for hours.
