Not an absolute, but the glut of mods that are popular add files or functionality to the game that it doesn't have. You could say that ANY change to systems, interfaces or models is asking for "official" mods. It's ... sorta true but not really.
Most people agree this is NOT a huge problem, just a feature that would enhance their experience. Things don't need to be HUGE PROBLEMS to fix them. The game as it is now is a culmination of thousands of tiny changes to the experience.
Maybe you have mistaken this for a real world problem where my preference of what I see actually affects real people. If I don't want to see something I don't even have to mention it, just click. Fixed. This isn't oppression or censorship, this is me changing what I see on my own computer. It's not personal, it's not intolerance, it's a graphic setting. It sounds like you need the spoiler here: Those cat/bunny/beefy/lanky people aren't real and their appearance is duplicated hundreds of thousands of times in different fidelitys on hundreds of thousands of computers. This isn't telling someone real they can't dress or present how they want.
So they should cancel the expansion in it's entirety until they fix everything? That isn't hyperbolic either, that is exactly what you just said.
You don't want to worry about people not seeing your character as you so carefully chose in a video game? Just don't think about it. Problem solved.
See how smarmy and inane and detached from the actual problem that is?
