Is South America part of the US/North America? No, it's its own continent that is a part of the "Americas" but they do not recognize themselves as the general "American" that the US does (hence why Brazilian, Chilean, etc. exists):

It really isn't hard to Google. Just because it's all a giant landmass does not mean everyone there recognizes themselves as American lmao.
This is the funniest thing I've read in a while. Thanks for the laugh.

North America is a continent primarily comprised of Canada, The United States, and Mexico, but even then there is Central America which may also be considered part of North America that includes 7 other countries.

"America" is a general term for all the regions of North, South, and Central America.

Hello, OP. For the sake of “political correctness” in this modern age, you may want to reword the question to something like “Which continent on the Earth do you current reside?” I’m assuming nobody on the space station is currently playing online games, but I could be wrong.

I must restrain myself from making Canadian jokes. It's really hard.

This is not a "US NUMBER ONE WOOO!!!" *soaring eagles wielding AK-47s with explosions in the background* thing.

    This is history.

The whole continental landmass was named America in honor of Americo Vespucio who was the first to suggest that the continent Christopher Columbus arrived to was not Asia.

It has been referred to as America or the Americas for 500 years, so why should we start calling it different now just because some people have insecurities?

Everyone's going crazy over the Americas, meanwhile the poor New Zealanders, still lumped into Oceania even though they're actually part of a recently discovered mostly submerged eighth continent.

    Zealandia represent!

Although, Australia is also it's own continent, and they get lumped into Oceania as well.

"The Americas", sure (and it's a name implying ther there are at least two of them), but I've never seen the whole double-continent landmass referred to as simply "America". That means USA to the vast majority of people.

Perhaps it's used differently in America itself.

In any case you should be wanting to separate out the continents of North America and South America simply because "The Americas" is such a huge geographical range that you want to split it out in your data.

Continent-wise, "Central America" is still part of North America.

A "study" based on surveys of self-selecting groups of forum users?

    I am skeptical.

Just pointing out that while I've heard this used in Europe, I never ever hear this at home (in Canada). I.e. we never refer to ourselves or Mexicans as "Americans", rather we're "North American" if we want to identify by landmass.

However, as someone who has some experience with market research, for what it's worth, I would not set up a survey just referring to "America", depending on what I wanted to know I would want it split into the various continents or countries- "America" is just too nebulous.

You seem confused. Of course Canada and Mexico aren't part of the USA - they are three separate countries.
All of them are part of the continent of North America however.

The sources you list actually agree that Canada and Mexico are part of North America.
