In terms of what is "sensible" or not I feel like people place a bit too much focus on how sensible it is when most of the time jobs are just DPS. Those examples, outside of Chemist (I'm not sure what Shaman is, there are a couple things I can think of it being but in one case it's definitely not a healer and in the other case it's not called Shaman) are still mostly DPS or Support after all, that's how jobs outside of MMOs work.

    1. Whether it feels lazy or not is really a matter of how they implement it to me. My ideas for Geomancer, for instance, would involve static AoE terrain where you get different spells depending on what terrain you're in that you created. If people call that the same as White Mage that says more about them than it does about the concept.
    2. Honestly I think people are focusing really specifically on Aero/Stone when it doesn't have to be those specifically and more the themes they represent.
I think why a few of us are so focused on Aero/Stone/Water is that is the whole basis for Geomancer as a class and a school of magic in FFXIV. They are masters of THOSE three elements. They are showing us time and time again in the lore book and the game that this version of Geomancer is not a terrain manipulating master of all elements, they are Masters of Wind, Water and Earth with a focus on banishing spirits/summoning shiki. You have the Sai Taisui only using those three elements in their casting attacks, the same Sai Taisui can only be created by mud that comes from a spot where leylines of power from water/wind/earth come together, all of Swallow's Compass is a journey through Wind, Water and Earth. You have Seiryu, the deity to the class as a whole, focusing on Water, Wind and Earth along with summoning of shiki.

So while creating of terrain on the ground would be a great mechanic, and I hope they implement it, at the end of the day they will most likely be manipulating and focusing on those three elements.

But it makes less sense then both of them anyway. Chemist is a healer, it says so on every description of the class. Time Mage is where we get Regen, so there in itself it already has one more heal than Geomancer has ever had access to.

https://www.bg-wiki.com/bg/Geo-Regen is healing. https://finalfantasy.fandom.com/wiki...sy_VI)#Sunbath is another one. So a grand total of two different healing varieties, one of which Time Mages have just framed a bit differently to boot. One could certainly argue https://finalfantasy.fandom.com/wiki...ck_(Tactics_A2) is an example of Geomancy at work too, and we get a couple healing spells there.

At the end of the day outside of Chemist or something like Sage/Devout/whatever other White Magic using job you want to pull out, you're going to wind up having to fudge things a bit. FF healers are White Mages and... pretty much that's it. Everything else is maybe it could be a healer if you squint a bit, even Chemists have a lot of offensive potential from mixing items. White Mages are the only "heal/support and nothing else of note" job the series has (Ivalice games are kind of an exception as they do add a lot of support focused jobs, but they also have a lot narrower of a focus).

I'd much prefer Geomancer to be a caster DPS.
Giving us an eastern flavour earth/wind/water caster.
As a healer I think it would be too similar to CNJ/WHM.

There isnt a single instance at any point of FFXI that you are going to use that Regen. So I see what you are saying, but that is still...

I feel the Geomancer class would end up becoming like blue mage. A limited job because of the style its played.

It'll have "basic" spells but you'll learn more / change them depending on the location you are and the weather. Rain maybe enhances healing spells? A heatwave makes your fire spells more effective. You draw the energy from the area around you much rather than just learning spells as the typical mage. I'm focusing on more the FF Tactics/FFV/FFVI style of Geomancer where its focus is based on the location would make for a unique class to play. Probably more influential and useful for fates and areas they are in. I can't see it being a complete class because of the way geomancer works.

Chemists should exist just so potions suck a little less.

I mean, if we are basing things off of what gets used most jobs in general would look rather different. And the point is simply that Geomancers have healing. You probably don’t use Time Mages for Regen either, so it’s not exactly like you’re earning much points by using Time Mages as an example. If you want to look at what a Geomancer could do as a healer, my idea is basically them dropping terrain markers that provide a buff or debuff, and modify moves of theirs while in them. Kind of like Astro but you could move around the markers and such. It’s the easiest way to represent terrain in this kind of game. Maybe default is Earth element (wherever you stand it’ll be Earth) with a Water and a Wind terrain effect, or hypothetically even more.

Now, it’s not likely they’ll make this. But it’s an easy design with around a couple minutes of thought of a way they could do a healer that feels like a Geomancer without being the same as any others. That’s just off the top of my head, there are other designs I could make. And I would say it feels like a Geomancer too. Most jobs are flexible enough you can make them work in multiple roles.

I actually like the idea of setting certain points for healing wells and such. Though I can see them being exploited in raids or certain dungeons. Maybe have a set amount they can heal before they disappear? The idea is pretty nice tbh. Maybe geomancer would be a healer, but with an emphasis on buffs.

I was mostly saying that the two of them would make better options than Geomancer, with regen being originally a time mage ability. With Geomancer getting a regen years after, so yes you are right, they have a regen as well.

So I will change my angle, and only use this game as a point of reference. They have multiple instances of time magic being used in a healing/restorative manner in this game. Between Hildabrand quest and then the Benefic tooltips. So in a FFXIV standalone viewpoint, we have the time magic aspect being use restoratively and backstory of Geomancer being caster.

But when it comes down to it, you want Geo to be a healer and I do not. So we will most likely just talk in circles. haha

I'd rather see GEO as a caster, since adding it as a healer would give it too much overlap with WHM. WHM may not have those elemental spells anymore but SE didn't get rid of them completely and you still have them when you sync down. GEO would utilize them in different ways but having two healers fulfill essentially the same aesthetic up to a point wouldn't feel very creative. It would be much more interesting to see those elemental spells pushed into a more damage focused direction and be a mirror of SMN and SCH; two jobs that fulfill the same aesthetic (summoning) but use it in opposite ways.

IMO Chemist is the one that makes the most sense to add as a healer seeing as how it would be completely unique compared to the 3 we have now. The team focus on the idea of class fantasy and they might want to capitalize on those that want on a more mundane healing style that relies on technology instead of magic; we already have 3 casters in the role and having a fourth would feel stale. AFAIK it's also the last job they could add to the role that was explicitly a healer in previous games.
