I realized none of the FFXIV races appeal to me, anyone else?

I'll resume my opinions in one simple phrase:

In that 15 years WoW has also undergone at least 1 major game overhaul in regards to visuals in general that may have even been a game engine overhaul in order to not look as visually dated.

Which....FFXIV could also use right now, especially after dropping PS3 support after Heavensward and then the devs excusing a lot of things as "server limitations" or whatever.

Not going to suit everyone, but I'll throw my idea out there.

I don't actually care that much about appearances in game, and all the faces seem bland and samey. Back when 2.0 dropped, I had a chocobo mask from 1.0. I felt like showing it off, so I wore it everywhere, since no one else could obtain it back then (until they later added chocobo racing). I got quite used to it, and it eventually evolved into a limitation that I impose on myself. All jobs, always a mask. What's under the mask? Am I mangled/scarred/burned/branded? Leprosy? Am I even human? Perhaps there's nothing there, and I am merely a possessed suit of armor!? Use your imagination. No one is ever allowed to see my face + hair. Suddenly, most of the character customization options are irrelevant.


Yes, this does make those few cutscenes where they force your helmet off to be rather off-putting for me.

This. Funny enough I was thinking of putting a "I'm strictly talking about female characters" disclaimer but I thought it was sorta obvious D:

By process of elimination, I think OP would've rolled with Viera because out of all them, it's the only race that hasn't aesthetically displeased her and it's only issue are the lack of hairstyles.

A few races don't aesthetically displease me like Hyur / Viera / Miqo. I'm thinking of Hyur a lot but I feel they are missing something, something to make them less "bland" if that makes sense. They don't get that WOW factor no matter what I do plus some of their faces have weird eye lid/hood quality.

Never really had this issue, though I did get bored of being a Roegadyn for a bit (so I would change to female Roegadyn from time to time. Lalafell or Elezen if I was REALLY bored). Though now Hrothgar are a thing and I can't see myself changing from it. It is disappointing they have some issues (mainly hats for me, because they can't wear the one hat I like in this game), but they're otherwise the one thing I have been wanting in this game since ARR.

I had a face 4 elezen for the longest time and I just could not stand most of their facial expressions. Fanta'd back to my og ffxiv race, highlander. I love them so much, they're big, excitable, have great emotes, and have seriously dangerous curves. Go put her in late allagan, you'll see.

But, alts do the trick.
My main is a hyur, but I got one alt for each gender and race. Play with four til endgame and used to mess up with the fanta. Now I just throw my wallet away from my desk, so if I feel the urge, gotta walk and breath.

Are you purposing that OP wear a mask 24/7? It doesn’t sound like a bad idea, especially if it’s a chocobo mask, but I might not be the best idea.

I very much understand where you are coming from for hopefully obvious reasons, but the face is only half the battle if one only wears a mask, whether it be the chocobo mask or another mask (I think you might be wearing the falcon porter mask as of writing this reply).

One could be uncomfortable with one body despite the body having a face they like or vise versa, even if the body is completely covered with clothing or one wears a mask, think about different animations and body styles. This is why I very rarely play females in games, I’m more comfortable as a male, so a mask might not always cut it for players in OP’s state, unless a player had a body they liked but none of the faces cut it, but it takes a certain type a person to wear something like a chocobo mask 24/7 lol.

I'd like Elezen models to be tweaked a bit. We are very lanky looking and could use more facial updates.

Prior to the release of Shadowbringers, none of the races appealed to me, and I was never really able to really get into the game. Back when Heavensward was the current expansion, I played up to about halfway through the HW campaign, then pretty much lost interest. Then Square-Enix announced the Hrothgar race, which immediately got me excited, and I preordered Shadowbringers. When it came out, I started fresh, and have been playing ever since since.

I typically prefer playing large, bestial, predatory looking races. In WoW my main is a Worgen, and when FF14 Shadowbringers came out, Hrothgar were pretty much a perfect fit.
