I realized none of the FFXIV races appeal to me, anyone else?

Yet, even WoW is finding the capability to add more customization options in their next expansion after 15 years of limited creation options. So, I don't want to hear the excuses here from Squeenix anymore that it's not possible. It is possible, they just don't want to put the work in, even though many people want this to happen. I for one would love some different body options, I know sliders might be too hard to implement, but I'd like elezen more if I could shorten their limbs, or I'd like au'ra males more if I could slim up those thighs, etc.

Didn't really mean to spark such a debate with my comment. Also, I don't keep up with WoW news so I would never know that. If they are adding more options like you said that is great. I just remember feeling extremelly limited in my choices during my play time, only having a choice of 5 heads 5 hairs 5 eyes etc. Honestly all of the races sort of felt like Viera lol. So limited. I agree that Square Enix should really step up when it comes to customization though, because it's something that is very important to the people who play the game

Viera cant wear (most) headgear and have less choices when it comes to hairstyles, so they're limited in that way. For some people its huge deal not being able to wear hats - specially iconic AF-ones, like RDM or Dragoon - or have wide(r) variety of hairstyles to choose from. I'd also imagine that they're feeling "left out" or like SE doesnt care about them when even new headgear and hairstyles arent available to them (because they assumed they would be, even though it was never promised).

Yeah I made an alt and had the same thoughts just too much effort with outfits being character only and what not or only being the Mogstation per 1 character and not on the alt just the main.

I'm the opposite. I'd much rather spend that fantasia/rename money on buying permanent mogstation cosmetics for alts instead of making temporary changes to my main. Though ideally purchases like that would be account-wide anyway, like some other MMOs.

For me, using a fantasia means losing one character to temporarily create a new one; there would be loss involved. For others I guess it's more like changing a profile picture or something?

That is indeed the case for me, like changing an avatar, which is what it is considering there is nothing substantially different about the races other than appearance and voice. The character that is represented by the avatar is still largely the same even with a race change as far as the game is concerned unless the player creates a backstory and persona for the character that goes beyond the game.

I'm not too worried about having a copy-cat/ clone of my Miqo because most Miqo & Au Ra players have terrible fashion and choose between 1-2 faces- they have pitch black hair or white anime hair & wear something hipster/ Nier/ all black with black lipstick and glasses. If anything, they're copy cats of one another.

Says the person using one of those common Miqo'te faces, and wearing thavnarian gear that has been over-used on miqo'te since 2014 :P

Now before I start, let me say I do appreciate how most of them look and I'm in no way trying to bash Square Enix on this. I'm aware this is a personal issue.
I'm also aware some people might think "Who gives a damn" but I would really like to know how other people feel and if they might have/had the same problem.


Over the course of years, I have used Fantasias quite a bit. I used to think it was due to me liking how they all look and that it was making me indecisive but I realize now it's because none of them hit the sweet spot.

I personally love playing Elves or small races (what they are called depends on the game) but neither Elezen nor Lalafell fully appeal to me.
Elezen, just like Elves in general, can feel very elegant but I don't like their faces and I cannot get over their neck and animations.
Lalafells are adorable when played by other people but when I try I cannot get over the "toddler" walk and neither do I feel like they portray what I wish to portray when I want a more badass/edgy look.

Miqo'te are very cute and all of their customization/animations/emotes are good. It's no wonder they are that popular. Butt.. that is also where my issue lies.
Currently, I'm playing a Miqo'te and I see a twin version of myself (minus skin/hair/eye) every 2 minutes. It makes me wish even more for more in-depth customization.

Au ra have an entire problem of their own with the horns not being separated from the faces and as you might guess, yes I'm one of those who suffers from their fav face being stuck to horns I don't like and vice versa.

Viera is a very limited race and therefore I already cannot play it. I want to be able to use my unlocked and bought hairstyles as well as hats. Other than that, very beautiful race.

Hyur, well.. they have nothing that stands out to me. I know, they are just your everyday human race and I get it but that never appealed to me as much in fantasy MMO's.

and unfortunately, Roegadyn is just not my cup of tea.

This makes it so whenever I decide on a race, I start seeing the things I don't like about it then I get tempted by another race because "the grass seems greener", just to end up not liking it again because "insert reason here".
It has been a never ending cycle so far. All the races have something that I either like but also dislike or is not my cup of tea period and I feel this is mostly due to the lack of "real" customization options.

Anyone else has/had this problem? and if you had, how did you overcome it?

Play as a female, lol.

I figure if I am going to be elegant, might as well play as a woman. Wish their were manly race templates like Barret from VII. It is also compounded by having zero jobs that appeal to me lol, being a former Beastmaster or any pet class in general.

Oh no.......I just had a thought. They might give beastmaster a whip instead of a sword or axe. So now they will be a bunch of cat-woman males.
