Can we delete Lalas and female Auris pretty please.
I'm still upset they didn't add Lupin as a playable race.
What this game badly needs arebmore customization options.
Add for all races n their genders finally like a douzen new faces n hairstyles. I can't believe it that this AAA game hasn't seen for over 18 months a single content patch, and I doubt it hard even the 54 months before I started playing FF14 in that the game existed already before, where SE did something really great to significantly improve this game's customization options at all, like it should be expectable for a game of this caliber with monthly fees plus an extra ridiculously overprized online store that gets used as only way too add new hairstyles sometimes, or ared locked ingame behing an ultra rare rng wall as a reward item with drop chance like 0,0000001 %. Stupid asia grinder methods say hello to this.
Aside of alot more faces n hairstyles would it be also awesome if the game would add to each race like 2-3 tribes more which offer some more visual difference, despite of being still the same race.
Mi"qote for example that look a bit less like 90% human/10 % Cats and more like 75% human/ 25 % hands with fur on arms, legs, back and hands/feet that look more catlike with claw like long nails, which are eventually from body size also smaller than mi'qote of the other tribes, like a middle thing between hyur and lalafell, bigger than lalas, smaller than generic hyur/mi'qotes
Doing this for the game - adding more customizatio options across the whole character creator and giving each race 2-3 tribes more with special visual differences among a same race, that would give FF14 some fresh new wind and would massively help in reducing the chances to run into clones of your character.
I was always dissatisfied with FFXIV races because they were so humanoid in comparison to other FF games. Like, even in FFVIII which had very little diversity in comparison to IX and XII has more diversity (imo) than FFXIV. But unfortunately, that's how FFXIV's lore is set up. It's basically humanoids VS beasts, with us being on the humanoid side. If they ever make another FF MMO, I hope they take a more fantastical route like IX, XII, Crystal Chronicles, etc.
That being said, I've been pining for viera for years (mainly because I knew they'd be feasible with the FF lore - never had I imagined Hrothgar would be a thing due to lore cuz the Au Ra were "iffy" lore-wise, or so says Yugiri, and Hrothgar have them topped. If we started in The First, I'd think it'd be fine. But we started in a very shattered, very scared, very speciest Eorzea.). And, honestly, the hats don't both mer. I rarely ever use hats. Hair would bother me because there's no reason for them to be limited (they're a lot like Miqo'te, imo), but I do think that's just a matter of time before the rest get unlocked for them. What makes them unplayable for me is the fact they're gender locked to female-only.
I don't like any other playable race aside from (male) Miqo'te, but it's mostly because they have the wiggly ears and not-as-stiff animations. X'D I looooved the original concept designs of the Au Ra. I was really disappointed with the end results/versions they decided to go with.
I won't be coming back to FFXIV's forums. The forum vibe is way too venomous and brings out the worst in me. I don't like who I am on the forums, so it's best to distance myself.
I started as a Dunesfolk
Then used some drugs to become a Keeper of the Moon
Then used more drugs to become a Midlander
Then went back to Keeper of the Moon
Then turned into a Veena
Then went back to Keeper of the Moon again (i mean i like Viera, but their awful hairstyles and the lack of more options bothered me more than expected)
And currently, i'm between returning to my original Dunesfolk body, or maybe try Au ra
I would love to have an Elin-like race here, but that would require a non-Midlander body type, so it will never happen. What we should get, and i think we need, is a "Fine Details" option like in TERA; That game has no body options as well, a limited amount of faces, skin & hair colors, but at least you can modify some stuff in the face to make our characters look a little more unique. With the very small amount of options we currently have (even smaller than TERA), it would be awesome to at least "fix" the parts we don't like of the face we want to use

I feel this very much. As someone who played XI from the beginning, when I saw XIV was using the same, though slightly modified, races as its predecessor, I did feel a certain comfort in that. However, I'm a bit bored of these races as of late and I still find XI's somehow had a bit more charm to them. Perhaps it was the lesser quality in graphics that allowed the imagination to fill in the detail, or maybe just rose-tinted glasses. There's a lot of qualities to XIV's races I wish weren't so, and thus I just don't connect to any of them on a level I wish I could.
I've always been very envious of people who absolutely adore the race they've chosen to represent themselves as in this game. I've always picked Hyur because I could at least make something aesthetically pleasing to my eye, albeit not that interesting. Right now I've switched to Miqo'te just for a change. But even then I get through playing one pretending he has more wolf-like features as opposed to a cat.
I really hope if there is ever another Final Fantasy MMO they retire these races and if not create an original cast, use Ivalician races as they are so diverse and have something for everyone I believe. Maybe even a combination of the two since I know these races have become very important to Final Fantasy fans in their own right. Just not me, sadly.
I can relate to you in a way OP.
When WoW was first released I hated the look of every race in the game and I personally can't play a game unless I can make a character that I really like the looks of. I couldn't bring myself to play WoW until they added the blood elves as I only like playing as Elves in medieval fantasy type settings. However, over time, the various WoW races grew on me and now I actually like their designs (and this was before they added the new models for them).
As such, I can completely understand where you're coming from in this case as I understand what it's like to not be able to make a character that is visually appealing to you! Nowadays if I try a game where I can create a character and don't like any of the options (Elder Scrolls Online comes to mind as I think all the character models are bad) I just can't bring myself to play it at all. In this case, best I can say to do is make a character that you dislike the least amount possible and see if it grows on you. =/
As for this game, I played an Elvaan in FFXI. I loved their lore, their main city, and their body design as elves with a lanky build. Not to mention their racial stats as having the highest physical damage in the game. They were absolutely perfectly suited to my taste, so when it came to this game, playing an Elezen was just like playing my Elvaan again.
