Well, i love all races and their unique features (the imperfections turn they great too) my con is that always that I use fantasia I got change their name too. So for me now I created alts to stop throwing money away, just wished the game would be alt friendly, but nothing that bothers much.

Mainly I make my characters not as an avatar/projection of myself, but because I like making OCs. Of course preferences are still present there, because these will be characters I will be constantly playing.

Personally I like Midlanders because they're the only race that actually look absolutely pleasing to me. Only a couple faces are terrible for each gender and their proportions are solid. I always see the reason of people not liking Hyur because "they're just boring humans" but having cat ears + tail or horns + scales plastered on your not-human doesn't really make you any special either. For FFXIV, I care more about how good the faces are, body proportions, their animations and emotes than their race features.
Anyway...the other races are okay but I have nitpicks about them.

Highlander: Their faces look unnecessarily terrible. Males have no eyebrows.
Miqo'te: God, I hate them. Next.
Lalafell: They're okay until you realize their head can be as big as a beachball, twice the size of a Hyur's head. Freaky. Their child-like design doesn't really appeal to me.
Elezen: You'd think the elf race would be the beautiful ones ever in the game but the male faces look crusty, sour-looking and terrible. Females are okay and somewhat achieve it if done right, but they only have 2 faces lmao. Their proportions (especially the neck) are too long, and their heads are too small.
Au Ra: The females are okay. The male faces look terrible except one. The male Au Ra posture and run is an eyesore. The horns being tied to the face type isn't good.
Roegadyn: I love the females. I love the males but they can look less square.
Viera: Honestly they're good, but the lack of hairstyles is what keeps them from being great.
Hrothgar: They're cute, but they lack options.

I also don't get bothered with finding twins. With the lack of customization options, it's honestly inevitable to be completely unique unless you go special snowflake with creating your character. I've never found a twin yet, though.
But yeah, the character creation can use an overhaul... There lacks so many options compared to most F2P Korean MMOs, and FFXIV is almost reaching 10 years here. Something like a body shape/muscle mass slider (not the muscle definition slider they have for Hyur and Roes, it works differently), and a real height slider and not some model-resizing slider would be great.

I tend to get bored easily and after about a month or two, or maybe a few days, I get bored of my character and want a new race. I'm hoping the female Hrothgar will be Kitsune. Buff, girly w/e I just want them to be fox like with more than one tail lol.

My original girl back in ARRR was Miqo'te- cause cat... I love cats. I left before Heavensward, came back not long after Stormblood was released, and couldn't remember anything, so I made a new character... another Miqo'te. I did make a Lala and a Hyur alt but never really liked them as much. When Viera came out, I changed both my original and my new main to Viera. The lack of hairstyles is a bit annoying, but even though I had most hairstyles unlocked, I have to admit I rarely used them, I always ended up using just one or two and they were not unlocked ones.

Over the course of years, I have used Fantasias quite a bit. I used to think it was due to me liking how they all look and that it was making me indecisive but I realize now it's because none of them hit the sweet spot.

I personally love playing Elves or small races (what they are called depends on the game) but neither Elezen nor Lalafell fully appeal to me.
Elezen, just like Elves in general, can feel very elegant but I don't like their faces and I cannot get over their neck and animations.
Lalafells are adorable when played by other people but when I try I cannot get over the "toddler" walk and neither do I feel like they portray what I wish to portray when I want a more badass/edgy look.

Miqo'te are very cute and all of their customization/animations/emotes are good. It's no wonder they are that popular. Butt.. that is also where my issue lies.
Currently, I'm playing a Miqo'te and I see a twin version of myself (minus skin/hair/eye) every 2 minutes. It makes me wish even more for more in-depth customization.

Au ra have an entire problem of their own with the horns not being separated from the faces and as you might guess, yes I'm one of those who suffers from their fav face being stuck to horns I don't like and vice versa.

Viera is a very limited race and therefore I already cannot play it. I want to be able to use my unlocked and bought hairstyles as well as hats. Other than that, very beautiful race.

Hyur, well.. they have nothing that stands out to me. I know, they are just your everyday human race and I get it but that never appealed to me as much in fantasy MMO's.

and unfortunately, Roegadyn is just not my cup of tea.

This makes it so whenever I decide on a race, I start seeing the things I don't like about it then I get tempted by another race because "the grass seems greener", just to end up not liking it again because "insert reason here".
It has been a never ending cycle so far. All the races have something that I either like but also dislike or is not my cup of tea period and I feel this is mostly due to the lack of "real" customization options.

Anyone else has/had this problem? and if you had, how did you overcome it?
You entirely skipped Hrothgar like we don't even exist.

Maybe because OP is trying to make a female character and has no interest on a Male-only race?

I'm in the same boat OP, I haven't changed since recently where I went Viera for ShB from my Midlander but now I wanna go back to viera but only because I dislike features of the other races.

Highlander- for females dont like any faces for males no eyebrows. If highlander females had better faces I'd play them over viera in a heartbeat.

Midlander - same deal faces bug me and the options for customization shows how awkward they can be.

Miqo- I just find them all samey and I feel like I can never make a unique one.

Elezen- I dont like the males at all with their options but I can tolerate the females until I notice the neck issues.

Lala- I've tried to play one but I can't make lala only glams sadly, they're also too child like for me woulda preferred Ellin or the other tiny race from blade and soul.

Roe- I cant make good Roes they can look good but I'm not into the big beefy dudes sadly or being the biggest race. Female roes are great too just not into beefy girls

Au ra- cant stand the tails/scales I made one I loved but the tails and scales kept ruining my glamours so I gave up.

Hrothgar- same issue with roe plus the fact if I wanna change hair styles it's a fantasia, nty.

Just leaves me with viera where I'm probably going to change back to it despite its hair issue it's got my favorite poses, perfect height, good animations, but due to this I can't help but feel the other races are stuck in 2.0 whereas viera are 5.0. Just nothing bugs me about them other than the hair thing but I can look past it.

A male doesn't need to have a mass of muscles to have a toned physique.
Ah yes. I believe you refer to the ectomorph. One of three body types for those having trouble recalling what that is. Most males in the game are the mesomorph (large, bulky, muscular) type, and Lalas would be the closest we have to endomorphs (high body fat to mucle ratio). Elezen are the ectomorphs without question (lean and long muscles), but male Hyur and Miqo'te are closer to this body type than a mesomorph like a Roe, Lion or Au ra. Unfortunately, they are just much taller than the ideal male you mentioned.

By process of elimination, I think OP would've rolled with Viera because out of all them, it's the only race that hasn't aesthetically displeased her and it's only issue are the lack of hairstyles.

I'd say with SE hanging up the idea of not adding in new races, 6.0 should give us more customization options. Viera and Hrothgar are ways that you can use the same skeleton models for completely different races, but from here on we should have more face/voice/eyes/etc. Just more cosmetic features to work with.

If SE wants to take a page from IMO one of THE best character customizers I'd look at Code Vein. Take away the glamour elements and just look at the character customizer, the amount of retinas you can apply are staggering, and little bits like that on top of more facial features will totally allow others to look more different. Add in 1 or 2 new face models for XIV and those elements basically add in thousands of new character designs and many happy players.

However I'd say the first issue they need to take care of is Hrothgar and Viera first, giving them more options as in the current state it seems like SE is keeping it's core races (with glam and hairstyles) and putting those two off into their little corner. Would rather they get more options first then focus on the other races that have a lot more going on.
