Every MMO that has come before and after WoW has never been able to achieve that. They nearly broke their own record with WoD with an alleged 10 million players at launch, but within 6 months literally half of the player base up and left because of how bad it was. So they set another personal record, and not a good one. A record that led them to stop reporting sub numbers which were supposedly around the 3 million mark when they stopped counting.
I guess if you count pure subscription numbers as "success", maybe.

I have... more criteria than just that, personally. You can get people to come, but do they stay? Subscription based services are only good if people stick around. Otherwise you get 1 month of sub and then the customer leaves and you get nothing afterward. I'd think a game that has 100k subs who stick around for 5 years is more successful than the game that has 200k subs, where 150k of them only stick around for 3 months.

    Amen to that, lol.

Casuals and hardcores deserve content and care. Do that, your game will be big. And FFXIV is on a wonderful, more successful path than WoW did at the 5 year mark, starting with 5.1. Imagine where FFXIV will be in another 6-7 years.

As much as I campaign for easier crafting, I am perfectly fine with not being able to do Star recipes. I don't, however, like seeing normal recipes being so bloody difficult to do while leveling. I just don't think that should be a thing.
Perfectly said. Couldn’t agree more. For some reason though, most of FFXIV’s community is a tad bit selfish, and believe hardcore players do not deserve content or attention even in the 1% - 5% slightest. It’s all about them. Then forgetting these people also pay for the game, not just them.

Luckily Yoshida is a cool guy, and he’s not one for discriminating against others. I assume this crafting change didn’t happen during 4.x because they were so focused on Hrothgar and Viera, etc.

Comparing hardcore battle content (Extremes, Savages, Ultimate) with hardcore crafting content is like comparing apples and peaches. Battle content is something that only affects you (and ofc your group) while hardcore crafting content affects the whole player base. Do I need to remind you that 3 times in an expansion the BiS gear is locked behind *'ed crafting, as are the food/pots used by raider ? Or that a huge amount of gamour items or anything craftable from trials are locked behind hardcore crafting ?

This wouldn't be a problem if it were a Saucer GATE but this is affecting everyone (and the prices on the MB show how a few players abuse their monopoly).

I really hope that the upcoming Ishgard Restauration content (in 5.2) will fulfill your desire for hardcore crafting content, but please leave other stuff out of it (as it is right now).

    1. You mean apples and oranges? lol Well, it’s really not. Both content is suited for two different types of players, in other words, both types of content should have difficulty to it. Saying otherwise seems to be just an excuse to make it unnecessarily difficulty-free because certain players are so lazy to where they have to rely on a macro to save the day for example.

    2. Hardcore crafting content affects the player base just as much as casual/unnecessarily easy crafting content does. Once again, this brings me to my original point of people being selfish..

    3. BiS gear being locked behind stared crafting? Well, uh, yep. What else did you expect to happen? Did you want it to just be literally given to you? This brings me to a previous point I made also, about users wanting things endgame to be far too accessible with hardly any difficulty. Which, is ridiculous. FFXIV is not a phone game.

    4. Glamour items, or items of any kind, being locked behind certain things, is what adds extra value to the item in question. Take those things away, and they are hardly worth anyone’s time to seek for selling on the market. Look, there’s regular items, then there’s rare items. Why should rare items be not-rare anymore? Because you can’t find the time to do it?

    5. 5.1 will already do that, with the new proc system added to crafting, but yes, 5.2 should be more juicy challenges. :P Also, I don’t dictate what is or isn’t affected by it. That’s Yoshida’s decision.

The patch is just a few hours away, so I hope you enjoy it. I’m mostly looking forward to the nier content.
