Blizzard games in general attract alot of toxicity, Overwatch is a prime example.
I think it's more that Blizzard games attract a lot of PEOPLE. They also have more competitive aspects to their design and that can breed hostility at times.

But the toxicity that people constantly claim WoW has is a bit exaggerated. Even over there, the worst offenders are quickly shot down.

I doubt WoW immigration will cause a toxicity spike. That sort of thing will happen more due to this game aging and the playerbase losing its patience.

Honestly, I think this game needs more toxicity. People are far too accepting of absolutely horrendous play from other players. You're considered an elitist if you expect someone to perform base job functions or wear level/job appropriate equipment. You're met with "chill" or "relax" when you politely ask someone what happened or why they were or weren't doing something. I like to refer to the FFXIV community as " The Care Bear Community."
I disagree that we need more toxicity as if humiliation will make people better players (it won't). But I can agree that more transparency is probably warranted as well as a willingness to observe context (Is it toxicity, well intentioned criticism or someone trying and failing to be playful?). And, no, I've never been summoned by a GM.
