well actually Hrothgar was the first in development because they felt a beast race was needed
so it was either Female Hrothgar or Female viera and they chose viera because of the demand

I'm pretty sure they had picked Viera first due to them being a fan favorite (they had concept art ready since HW), but the playerbase was also wanting for a bestial looking race. So their options were to add just viera and hope everyone would be satisfied with just those, an entire bestial race and hope everyone would be satisfied with them, or to split the difference.

I'm sincerely hoping they do eventually decide to work add the male and female counterparts of the viera and hrothgar respectively. I think they would both add a lot of flavor.

Yep, that sure is what they did. And it was absolutely delicious. Granted, I wished they were a little quicker on it as well, but I am beyond pleased with the end result. Glad we didn't get a Chippendale thing like some people wanted when you can easily craft that on your own by taking off your male toon's shirt.

Answer: Short answer is we haven’t made a decision on that. The reason why we can’t say for sure. We need to optimize our work flow with the existing races and the new ones. After that, perhaps we do the other gender. But we don’t know right now.

We did consider Male Viera instead of adding an extra race, but we tried to take player feedback on adding a more beast like race as well as the strong desire to receive Viera. We did expect strong feedback on the gender lock. It was a tough decision, but we decided to do our best to meet both the player feedback and our development team’s vision. It will be very costly to add a new race or genders. So I won’t say no, but I would not like to set expectations high.

We haven’t had time to look at all of the feedback since this is our first day back at the office after the Tokyo Fan Festival. What was the general feedback from NA based on your experience? Were they upset about no Male Viera, no Female Hrothgar or both?

Question: It has been a heated topic. Some players are okay, while many players are upset about the gender locking. Many are disappointed about no Male Viera, but with the Female Hrothgar I’ve seen some people be even more upset. This is because in The First Shard they are called Ronso, and in FFX there are plenty of female Ronso.

Answer: Thank you for the insight. Currently, we are putting together all the feedback. Depending on the feedback we are considering an official statement on the forums.

Female viera are the thirs most played race, so they arent like u say. If it wasnt genderlocked wed be talkign differently. Guess on 6.0 with male viera the viera race will likely become one of the most popualr ones all arround

Yeah, I don't doubt that the players who pushed for and continue to push for more feminine aesthetics are happy with the bunny suit in its current form. Such things tend to be fairly niche though - it just so happens that those who enjoy it tend to be very vocal.

Would you have a source of them stating they would consider it? I've yet to find anything in my searches, other then Yoshi stating they were considering male Viera, but instead wanted to implement a beast race in the form of Hrothgar from player feedback during testing and discussion.

As you play through Shadowbringers, you’ll learn that both male Viera and female Hrothgar exist. While you won’t meet any in person, if we developers can find a way to address the various problems which are preventing us from implementing them, then perhaps someday you’ll be able to see them for yourself. I want to be clear that this does not mean it will eventually happen, and that I cannot make any promises at this time. I hope you will understand and bear with us.

The "problems" referenced are covered in section 1 of that, and are cost-driven, as per earlier interviews. My interpretation of it is that they're waiting to see if the cost is worth it but they won't know that until they see 1) how ShB performs and 2) how the new races perform.

Think we can mostly agree won't be getting Male Viera anytime soon if ever though. Nothing recent posted about them other then the time needed to invest into something and the cost. People saying 6.0 are just being wishful, since nothing official has been said in that regard. So for now, this threads really just become a wish list of features wanted I feel, if they ever were to be put in game.

Or maybe, just maybe. There are more people out there that happen to like feminine aesthetics than you think. Shocking, I know. Sucks that you didn't get the Chippendale suit like you wanted, but you can always just take your toon's shirt off and achieve the same effect.

I'll never understand the people that love to go on about how "this method doesn't work" When this method was what consistently gotten us change in the game. If it weren't for people complaining about problems in this game, we'd still be in 1.0.

Still hoping to see male Viera and Hrothgals someday no matter what appearance Square chooses for them. I also hope they can unlock more hairstyles for what we already have, as well. There's so many cute unlockable hairstyles I'd love to see on the new races.
