Male Viera as a playable character! show your support

They still stick to the lore for all story and race related things. Yes, tons of lore breaking items in game, doesn't detract from the fact that when things are story connected they strictly stick to the lore.

There's a lot of lore that exists for most of the playable races but it isn't always referenced in a consistent manner.

It's not as if Viera were transferred exactly as they were in FF12 over to FF14 so if liberties were taken with the women then it makes sense for liberties to be taken with the men - there's no real need for them to be as restrictive and absent. After all, it was a major oversight. A lot of the people pushing for Viera to be added in the first place did as much because they expected the men to be added as well. I doubt that the push for viera would have been as strong if it had been known that we wouldn't be getting both genders.

I think they would be more elegant and stoic rather than crazy feral men. (Although I don't think that's what you meant literally) The females are beautiful and elegant, but strong, too.

I liked the hair in the artwork you posted earlier and hope we can get styles like that for the males if they ever come out. I looked at the twitter and saw they added face tattoos to the wip which I thought was pretty cool.

Non existent in FFXII except for one mention if Fran talks to one of the Viera, on how the males are sparse and mad in the head and muscular/stout.

Revenant Wings talked of cross breeding female Viera with other races and connected to the Ivalace lore. Hence Feol Viera.

So if they pull directly from FFXII lore, the men are crazy and barely to be found lol.

Let's hope that changes if they do ever try and add them, or would be quite awkward.

I'm gonna need a quote on that. The only mention of males in particular is in the Ultimania, where it just describes their society as segregated with both sexes living in different villages.

XIV DOES mention that the males are really aggressive, which may be in large part because of their training, but the one male we run across in a sidequest is nice enough to not shoot us on sight (as, again, a technical limitation as there are no males in-game right now, we only hear about it afterwards).

Indeed! I chuckle when the random generator makes a Suncat a Nuhn, which would mean they left their tribe to go adventuring and would not be a nuhn anymore

There's no way anyone expected a new race to be gender locked, nor based on the initial backlash, would the majority have wanted that. That being said, Yoshida has already stated that the reason they couldn't include the opposite gender was because it would slow their patch cycle having to fit everything to the race, etc. That's the reason why, not lore. Lore is just an excuse to explain the absence in a narrative way.

I don't think they are absolutely feral, that just shoot everything they see. They probably would have seen that we were allies of the females, thus they wouldn't harm us. I don't see them as barbarians.

So since the Regalia and Frog Suit ""Defense against the Lore Argument"" is suddenly coming back up......
What IS so far fetched about the Regalia? We arn't to far behind that such tech could exist in FFXIV, especially with the Imperials. Then the Frog suit...I just dont understand how this is an argument against Viera lore. Somebody please explain how bringing up the Frog Suit is an argument. Nobody ever brings up the Moogle Suit or the Werewolf suit, why is the Frog Suit so special?

I saw this and it seems less likely that they're crazy and it's a difference in translation. Mad of mind doesn't mean crazy, it means mad as in aggression. 'Out of your mind' is what you would say if they were crazy, not 'Mad of mind.'

We can't forget here that male Viera are noted to be very aggressive, which fits with the 'mad of mind' meaning they are aggressive, and not mentally unstable - for which there is nothing else in FF12 etc which mentions that the men are actually 'crazy'.

As for the numbers of male Viera I did maths on this months ago, not sure if it was in this thread or not. Anyway, the encyclopedia gives a number of how many Viera there are in FF14 world. It also gives the birth rates, with that information I was able to put forward that there was thousands of Viera, even if the males went through a massive cull along with lifestyle there were a good one thousand + of males and at minimum 500-1k males. If someone can grab all that info I'd appreciate it. I don't have my encyclopedia II with me.

If anyone can dress up in a frog/moogle/moomba/chocobo/etc suit and save the world you can be anything. I could even dress up as the Wendy's mascot and take on the Ultima Weapon if I wanted to. It's not that deep except for the frog suit and regalia being the more recent additions why I picked them.

As for the population of Viera a quick google search turned up this:

Yeah, there we go - that's just for that Dalmasca which obviously is going to have a population in the hundreds of thousands, more than likely millions as all countries do - but we don't see that.
So let's say there are a million people in Dalmasca then that gives a population of 50000 Viera. Viera have what, a one in ten birth rate for boys. So that's 5000 males at 1/10. Let's give them a 90% cull rate - meaning 90% of all males born don't survive to adulthood, that's 4500 dead, so that's 500 males left. That's more than enough to have one male WoL and some NPCs with a tiny population of 1 million. Keep in mind that Dalmasca is pretty big - and giving Dalmasca such a low population is just me being extremely stingy, England - just England, had a bigger population than that after the black death in the 14th century, and is a lot smaller where people had an extremely bad life expectancy.

Male viera not happening for a LONG time imo.
More Important things we need, willing to bet half of people wanting it will go back to their cat boys just like how female viera went back to cat and dragon girls.
