I mean, Blufever - the leaker who got most of the info right - never mentioned 'Hrothgar' until later. DUN - DUN - DUN. I mean if they were made 'first' then makes sense he would have known about them before the Viera, right?

Edit - he never mentioned a name for the lion race, and never said they were genderlocked just that there was 'two races'.

From what I recall there was zero mention of a genderlock from Blufever - the genderlock was added later due to some other leaker who was parroting information Blu already leaked. And that people don't expect Square to deliver two full races.

What we're rooting for is that the Square Inquisition delivers what was not to be expected - and thus blow us away at two 'full' races, for which people will quickly forget that Stormblood never had a new race for some reason.

Which job would be unique to FFXIV and has a weapon that has been seen in MSQ? It's certainly not gunbreaker, and dancer wouldn't be unique to FFXIV.

That was sarcasm if it wasn't obvious - the two aren't comparable. Not even Ronso and Khajiit are comparable in the lore department - would be actually unfair to compare them.

I mean, the two aren't comparable so why is you're entire argument comparing the two? Whatever ESO has or does is largely irrelevant to what FFXIV does. They're competing products but that's about it. Other games having feline like races doesn't mean anything to SE about putting in their own. If they have a concept they think players new and old would like they can do it.

Again, everyone against the genderlock seems to be entirely inflating the negative impact it could potentially have, when tons of decisions implemented into this game can be perceived to have the same or larger negative impact yet they're still added.

I also think people overlook some of the benefits to them doing a gender lock from a narrative/world building perspective. We haven't seen the majority of the lands of planet, each area is going to have its collection of races that inhabit it. For example, we are likely heading in Ilsabard in the future. Which is a great landmass likely filled with plenty of new races we haven't heard about or seen. If we are heading there and they want to have a new player race come from these lands, they could have opted to do a temporary gender lock so they could develop assets for this new race which will inhabit these new lands we go to.

This way, we can go into these lands and meet some of the locals, experience their lore and some of their society and get to play as some of them, while later down the road we get the option to play as the other races.

This way, we can get access to these new lands, without it later being an even more jarring experience for a new player race to just pop out of the ground and be from places we have been to but never encountered them. It'd be akin to if we had gone to Othard before Au Ra were added to the game and then suddenly they added Au Ra later and they were supposed to have been from Othard the whole time.
