Gender locked race?

Aside of the personal-taste issue of some people thinking it's gross, there are quite possibly actual legal considerations over whether they can put a child-like playable race into the game. (If so, I would assume Lalafell get a pass because they're stylised characters and not really proportioned like a small Hyuran child would be if they were seen in the game.)

People are always more comfortable with sexualizing young women. But that shouldn’t take away of my fantasy of a link like character saving the world.

Moving away from the whole sexualisation stuff (which is easily one reason why I feel SE shouldn't make any more playable childlike characters), let's go for something more lore focused. Toon/Young Link isn't an army general/lieutenant, which is something you can kinda become in FFXIV with GC Squadrons. I feel that no one, even NPC's, would like their superior to be a naive/know-it-all/prodigy teenager (I hated when Alphinaud became the leader of the Crystal Braves, but loved it when it exploded in his face).

There are other reasons why I don't want younger than 18 year old's to be playable in this game, but those are personal "I hate children protagonist" feelings... though I'll give Young/Toon Link a pass because at least he doesn't talk.

Here's what I think will happen: they're going to make Viera a genderlocked race and use both of the genders for different body types, the Fran build and the "young Elezen" build.
Both "genders" will have access to the Rava and Veena clans
This way they can conveniently find a way out of making male Viera because of the way they set up the race and also lore.

I just can't understand getting so upset about what someone else's character looks like in a vidya game. It isn't hurting me any. I think trying to police the kind of outfits people with young looking characters wear is just silly. I don't have the time nor the energy to care. Hell, if you wanna be a sexy lalafell go ahead. I think you're going to be fighting an uphill battle trying to stop young looking catgirls/au ra from wearing sexy outfits. :v Like, some of these au ra girls look like preteens.
