Interesting interesting. It still does seem quite odd that they wouldn't show them off at the fan festival.Do you mean like shown side by side? Because then yeah we definitely never recieved that lol. But do you mean is there any mention what so ever about a subrace? Because we do have mention of a subrace in the game lore written by Matsuno. That lore says there are two clans (subraces) and their main difference is light skin and dark skin, this lore written for Viera is also the same lore built for FFXII's world and we know from that game that it's indeed mainly a color difference.

They did, that's how 'little' the difference was. Which actually makes it really questionable. The females shown were supposedly of those two 'clans'. Which is just ??? - you couldn't even tell the difference unless you knew Viera lore. Other subraces are like that as well though; differences in skin tones and the likes. Viera is just odd because the difference is something we would consider a 'normal skin tone' on both of them. Dark skin vs light skin, can't say I like it.
Both 'types' both live in the same location, have the same type of history and follow the same laws - they have the same lore. It's actually pretty boring.

That's bothered me since we first got the Viera lore dump. Skintone might be the most noticeable difference between clans of other races, but they usually have secondary features (eg. distinct eyes) and always different lore.
It bothers me that he just talks about "Viera culture" and not the clans.
Wild theory though, if skintone really is the only distinction between them - and unless they've specifically made new dark-oriented and pale-oriented palettes for them - why not have them programmed as one clan, and use the second clan for something else entirely... like Hrothgar?
Then again, they might just have more subtle distinctions and the Dramaturge isn't going to hold up his explanation to outline every detail. If nothing else, I hope that's the case at least.

They'd have to do something otherwise yeah, it's going to be boring - but then again if they're going the gender locked route then it's already going to be a race that doesn't have two distinct sub-races as well as lacking their male counterparts. That's bothered me since we first got the Viera lore dump. Part of me wishes that Hrothgar is the subrace to Viera that simply doesn't live in the wood and thus has the smaller ears and mane-like hair, perhaps lives in mountain/snow climate - like an Arctic hare. Arctic hares are much smaller than normal hares having smaller limbs and smaller ears than their counterparts. Also of course not forgetting that 'Viera' means 'of the wood'. Seems highly unlikely, however; unless people can't tell the difference between a 'cat' and a 'rabbit' in descriptions.
That wouldn't make sense with the French leaks since it was separated by races and not by clans, so I wouldn't even say unlikely but a hard, "No."They'd have to do something otherwise yeah, it's going to be boring - but then again if they're going the gender locked route then it's already going to be a race that doesn't have two distinct sub-races as well as lacking their male counterparts.

My line of thought is that they wouldn't call themselves Viera due to the actual meaning of what 'Viera' is. To them, someone not born of the wood or who leaves the wood is no longer considered a Viera. Makes you wonder what they actually call themselves after that - well if a large bulk of them broke away from that way of life to create a new 'clan'.
Honestly yeah, it's a hard no - would certainly make me cock a brow. Speculation is speculation.

To be honest, I'm leaning more towards this.Part of me wishes that Hrothgar is the subrace to Viera that simply doesn't live in the wood and thus has the smaller ears and mane-like hair, perhaps lives in mountain/snow climate - like an Arctic hare. Two full races, not-genderlocked, sounds way too much to be plausible, and given the lore behind male Viera, I'm wondering if they're trying to preserve the mystery behind male Viera by not releasing them, but giving us a related race male-genderlocked, but similar enough to Viera that they are essentially our equivalent of male Viera.
Sounds like them releasing Midlander ladies and Highlander guys as matches...Two full races, not-genderlocked, sounds way too much to be plausible, and given the lore behind male Viera, I'm wondering if they're trying to preserve the mystery behind male Viera by not releasing them, but giving us a related race male-genderlocked, but similar enough to Viera that they are essentially our equivalent of male Viera.
So based on the race being described as Ronso-like (Which people say look like Roe) and another leakers saying bara cats. Are people excited for big burly bara bunny men? I better get the art train running then! LOLTo be honest, I'm leaning more towards this.
