I think the biggest rift I've seen are between people who want a manly tall elezen type male Viera and the little bunny boy we saw in the concept art. I honestly don't think the faces are what people are arguing about lol.

In the event you weren't around for the previous Viera request thread, the females were in a similar camp pre-Fran reveal where some wanted the usual tall+lean females and others wanted small+cute based on that one concept art.

The two most popular ideas for male body type are tall+moderately muscular and small+cute. Without going the middie/highlander split, choosing 1 and giving the options to make something cute or rugged covers the most bases of what people want. You can make a googly eyed, puffy cheeked, min height catboy. Or you can make a max height, wrinkled catboy with chops and scars. Midlanders are pretty similar with their customization and I think thats why they're the two most popular male picks, you can do so much with them.

Anecdotal, but the cute Au Ra face is the 2nd most used one I see in-game behind Magnai's face.

The Elezen 'cute face' is definitely somewhat off-scale to the body, at least on the default model, although that seems to be dependent on overall character design as well. (eg. Emmanellain looks fine, I think because his hairstyle makes his head look bigger, and the proportions don't look so 'off'.)

I absolutely love my 'cute' Au Ra alt though. He doesn't look strange at all.

Doesn't the gear just scale based on the size? I mean, lalafells wear the same armor as everyone else does. It just gets shrunk down to fit them. They don't make new models for all the gear or anything.

Lalafells are a very different body shape, so gear definitely has to be remodelled for them - but I think elements of it just get re-scaled or stretched a bit and stuck back onto the new version of the models.

(Male Au Ra seem to particularly suffer with this - wide collars end up extra large and bulky. The absolute worst thing I've seen is the pauldron on the Lv70 Summoner relic gear, which is much bigger than on other races and clips (slices) straight through their chin. It looks rather horrendous. D: )

Someone was saying a while back that there are a few different models used, but they're grouped as much as possible.

I'm pretty sure they have to shape each piece of armor for the different races. Like if I remember right I thought that was part of the reason the male bunny suit took so long. Size is one thing, but body shapes are completely different so I don't know how they could just shrink wrap to each race, but maybe that's how it works. If that is how it works, then yeah I guess they could have a tall/tiny tribe. If.

They definitely have to adjust to body types midlanders shape is very different to highlanders shape they would have to adjust outfits to player character movements and each are different per race as well, Yotsuyu's outfit was designed with character movement in mind but animating it would be a nightmare for each race it's why she had very strict movement (set paths barely anything close to what PCs can do) imagine that outfit on nin or mnk, i'd honestly wonder if that person is smacking themselves every gcd XD

going off what I've been learning from certain discords...

there seems to be 2 main options for gear: A. 1 for everyone (midlander male based stretched to fit everyone is most common if this option) or B. a split that usually goes lalas (male and female), female hyur (includes middie/highlander/fem catgirls/aura/elezen/femroe), male midlander (includes middie/catboy/au ra/ elezen), male highlander, and male roe. I'd imagine there has to be some scaling involved to make sure evrything looks right, but seeing as frumpy as some gear looks on certain race/gender combos, its not a particularly exact science.

I expect female viera to fit into the female hyur option, albeit with unique feet. If male viera went off the concept art they'd likely fit into the male midlander bracket. Assuming the new male catrace is "bara", it'll either share with male highlander, male roe, or have it's own unique shape (which would end in more dev work lol).

No :/ As far as i am aware that is the whole reason why new races are so much work. Every piece of gear has to be adjusted for each individual race. Think about it logically: The gear might be the same in terms of the concept, but the Body proportions are different. You cannot copy paste a upper-body peace from an Au Ra on a Lalafell and just adjust the size So yeah...every piece has to be reworked vor each race....male and female.


On another note: I am following this thread for a while. I personally am rather "neutral". I happy for what i get. I am happy that we get the females and a bit sad of probably not getting male viera. But for me personally it is not a big deal if we get a nice alternative instead. What is really sad to me though is that some people take their frustration out on female viera :/ Painting them as just a lewd race that are "just there to appeal to naughty men". A really nasty stereotype... I am a heterosexual woman that just thinks they are really pretty and aesthetically pleasing. Even if i happened to be a man it would be quite unfair to assume i play them for...a kink.

(If something I wrote is hard to understand (or just a mess), feel free to ask/correct me. I am not a native speaker :/)

The people that posted that have an issue with the idea of viera altogether because they associate bunny girls with perverted stuff, I'm assuming because of playboy bunnies and stuff like that. :v That's a personal issue on their part, and I think I've only seen like one person say anything to that effect. No one is going to think any certain way about you for playing as a viera.

My husband was also rather curious about how male viera would end up He wanted to create a male that would fit to my viera and we really rooted for a tall but lean design with masculin and elegant emotes Like a fine mix between Au Ra and Elezen. Strong and graceful. Nooow we have to wait for how the hrothgar are going to end up...i am quite scared to be honest xD The name sounds so rough...more like a mix of Au Ra and Roe.
Someone posted a picture a while ago- an artwork of simba and scar in a humanoid form Lean and quite pretty. That would be nice.... (but that is just my taste ).

And unfortunaly a quite vocal part in the rp community already voices their grudge against the upcoming "erp-race" Q_Q. Its quite discouraging at times...but on the other hand there is always this group of people that gets mad when new races are coming
