This makes me laugh a little. We have a big debate about gender locking because one race might be weird due to the cute feminity. Yet we're going to have a class that in the same stretch of backwards thinking is feminine. So we're going to have a bunch of guys elegantly dancing to heal.
Yep, can see it now.
Dancer is a healer and limited to female only because it would look weeeirrrrrrddddddddddddddddd.
She worked on the Designs for Corsair, Blue Mage, Dancer and Puppetmaster in FFXI. They showed a picture of each one as they mentioned them.
For the record btw... I think DNC will be a healer if it's the only other job we get next expansion.
If we are only getting 2 new jobs then I agree that dancer will be healer. Not adding a healer would disappoint quite a few people who haven't had something new for their role in a long time. I would certainly give it a try as my new main since I've been thinking about being a healer for this expansion. You're right he didn't say it was a healer, I am mistaken. However, SE decided GNB should be a tank because there are 3 tanks and 4 melee DPS. Conversely, if that's the case, it would also make sense that because there are 3 healers and 5 ranged DPS, the second new job would be a healer. Also, we just got 2 DPS last Expansion.
What if dancer had something similar to astrologian's sects except it changed the skills to between pure dps and heal/lesser dps? And they need to use whips.
Part of me wonders, with them talking of potentially making two 'main tanks' and two 'off tanks' if they would end up making say WHM/DNC regen healers and SCH/AST shield healers. That would mean taking the choice away from AST though, which may make it easier to balance but also remove something people like about the job.
Or maybe they don't get regens, they get minor group heals based off damage, and your standard big heals that have nothing to do with dps?
*Triggered*. But anyway the only part of this that bothers me is those times you come across an AST who either don't use a sect at all or uses the wrong one and then you get to deal with that for the entire run. Even though I am an AST main I'm not a big fan of the sect system with them. Of course this isn't a skill problem, it's a bad player problem. Only so many times I want to tolerate Noct ASTs with a SCH.
I'd like a healer that can play smoothly with another of the same job. Two ASTs can be a pain in the neck with card coordination or sects (usually the former).
Seeing as the damage output could be lowered to compensate (all skilled healers actually attack currently anyway) the higher up-time of offense, balance is not an issue.
What is an issue is damage without a target to damage. There are invincibility phases in a bunch of bosses, some of which damage during those. Just about all ultimates involve invincibility and if they come after AoE that drops the party members low on health...good game, try again. So every healer needs straight healing of some sort (by straight, I mean one that can be done without any enemies at all and in some sort of bursts).
I just finished up the 4 base Mythic dungeons weekly on my Mistweaver Monk and I had tons of fun, even though I got some real winners in my Atal'dazar and we wiped twice (Demon Hunters...lol). I didn't feel like a "healbot", I didn't feel like I was playing "health bar whack-a-mole" or whatever disparaging stuff people want to come up with when they want to slam others for wanting XIV to have more actual healing requirements in the game. I felt like I was just enjoying playing my class, popping out as many Renewing Mists as I could for that sweet Vivify cleave and Rising Sun Kicking things in the butt in the few seconds of downtime I had. I still DPS'd, I didn't just stand around overhealing for the lulz because nobody accuses you of being lazy for "just healing" as a WoW healer. Frankly, I just enjoyed...using my entire toolkit, which is something I feel like I no longer do as much as a healer in this game.Honestly I think I've had more trouble healing wow leveling dungeons on expansion release than current savage fights. Savage fights for me just mostly end up as an equation of how little healing/how much risk do I want to take to increase the amount of DPS I can do without causing a wipe. Since I have a more cautious gameplay style that is really boring and unrewarding to me.
As I said, playing casually does mean that if DNC comes out and is a healer, I'll get to just level it and enjoy it and not care about whether or not it's "meta" like I might have had to worry about if I was still raiding, but...I'm still sort of dreading it having the same copy-paste catch-all healer toolkit that SCH/WHM/AST all have. Playing healers in other MMOs just reminds me of how similar all three healers here feel.
