Gender locked race?

I keep hearing about the lion race; part of me doesn't think it's playable - even with those 'leaks'. Especially when with 'R' being mentioned to being it. But with us being in Ivalice and around it; there was another 'lion' race, one which even 'Cid' was. They were the 'Rev'
http://prntscr.com/mgiwng and tied into FF12 just like Viera was. Still hoping it's male Viera though and if there is a second race, it's not gender locked.

I'm no fortune teller but I can tell you with 100% certainty that it will not be Rev.
