Whoa, when did this change? :0 I don't remember this being an option before. This is a good way to allow people a choice in the matter.

I couldn't find it on the lodestone. I don't raid but the idea that people can actually upload something there without your permission or that you have to register on the site in order to opt out is a big turnoff. That shouldn't be allowed.
When uploading fflogs, you dont only upload data for your character, but also for your entire team. All bad performing ones are also on these logs.Ahh that makes sense, but isn't the skill of the average player high IN fflogs? Is it okay to assume that people that have higher skill is more likely to upload to fflog?
Actually scratch that I meant to ask, isn't it more likely that fflogs contains on average players with higher skill than all the players that don't upload but still play the same savage/ex content?
I just checked and it appears fflogs has changed their own policy when it comes to opting out: https://www.fflogs.com/help/hiding-characters/
Ideally we shouldn't have to opt out in the first place but not having to register on fflogs to do so is a huge improvement. I'm shocked that this isn't being talked about. Is it old news and have I been living under a rock?!![]()

It's not being talked about more because it's mostly a non-issue save for those who act like they're entitled to their combat data and as if it's their characters and by extension, their property.I just checked and it appears fflogs has changed their own policy when it comes to opting out: https://www.fflogs.com/help/hiding-characters/

it's not ... your data ... though?
idc either way if people decide to opt out or w/e, but its silly to assume your damage numbers are considered private data.
I know it's not XIV exactly but hear me out.
The Blizzard game Overwatch has plenty of sites (similar to FFlogs) out there that collect your data straight from players profiles on Battle.net (both PC and console users) Doing so they are able to have records of damage, healing, pickrate etc you know all those things but available in one place, and players couldn't do anything if their data was collected there. So X player could search Y player online and make a judgement based on the stats available.
Eventually Blizzard gave players the option to make their stats in-game private or only viewable to friends resulting in the Battle.net info also showing as private. The side effect of this was that the 3rd party sites could no longer collect all the data it has before because suddenly a lot of it was private and inaccessible. So this case I think we can say that stat numbers are private data regardless of who it belongs to.
Granted I know someone is going to say, -but players can see their stats during a match anyway, it constantly shows your damage, heals etc so it's like a parser is built in to the system (only viewable by that player) anyway-, though anyone who does or who has played Overwatch knows how toxic environments can get when players start mentioning stats. He/she has gold medals, top damage etc, all these little things have potential to cause discord when stuff starts to go wrong.
Anyway I suppose what I'm saying is, perhaps FFlogs should require players to opt-in to have their data recorded rather than it doing it by default. If it's not possible, we'll continue to have threads these demanding SE to do something about it. Although to be clear though, I have no issues with FFlogs in the long run.
16 pages of bait. Am jealous, really.
LOL you're using an illegal 3rd party device and it's fine. Not surprised you'd think that opting in wouldn't be the way to go and not have it be the other way around. I have 8 end game characters and am doing them one at a time at the moment opting out of a site I really want no part of.
Thank you have done two characters and will to the others soon enough.I just checked and it appears fflogs has changed their own policy when it comes to opting out: https://www.fflogs.com/help/hiding-characters/

If people were aware that it was that easy to opt-out I do think it would ease the minds of many, and maybe would curb the disdain for parsing.
