So you complain about the slow leveling, and when the QOL change to XP gets mentioned, you mock it for not giving the "XI experience".

That the game is vastly improved by straying from it's original formula as much as possible doesn't give you the least bit of pause, does it?

See I have this problem where I generally don't stick with things that are awful.

If there's one thing that's consistent with the Final Fantasy fandom, it's that you're never far from someone with an irrational hatred for a specific title in the franchise. They'll swear up and down that it's the worst thing ever but the reality is that even the more controversial titles have a decent amount of fans. In the case of FFXI, it wasn't even a particularly controversial game. Don't mistake not liking something for it being terrible. That isn't at all how you review things.

I'm going to have to take exception to your use of the word irrational.

There is nothing irrational about my disgust with Final Fantasy XI. It is based solely upon playing and analyzing the game and its content divorced from the fact that it is is a numbered Final Fantasy title. The reason why it wasn't a controversial title is because there was nothing controversial about it. It was an awful game. You either tolerated that awfulness because you wanted the Final Fantasy experience in an MMO, or you turned around and ran for the hills as fast as you could.

You can tell me all you want about how much "better" things are nowadays with all the many changes that have been made, but that is not a defense of what the game was. That's an indictment of it.

Don't mistake your own personal nostalgia for a quality experience. That isn't how you review things.
