I think I've posted in this before but I'm still anti-unlock.
If you give everyone everything, creativity dies.

How does creativity die giving more people the options?
If anything it adds to it

    It doesn't. It's a completely illogical statement.

By definition, having more options allows for increased creative freedom. Restricting choice only inhibits creativity.

In this sense, it's a matter of fact. Arguments against unlocking the racial clothing shouldn't use illogical structure if they want to be persuasive ones.

Friendly reminder that this and this exist. The devs themselves seem to have no qualms about unlocking the hempens sets when it suits them, so that also kills any lore related arguments, at least regarding these sets.

There's still somewhat of a lore-related argument: they are Garlean, who seem to be halfway between Hyur and Elezen to begin with - characters might have either race's basic model, and interestingly, both the guy in the second picture and at least one of the other performers on the Prima Vista have what are otherwise Duskwight-specific eye tattoos.

Also it tells us that they've modeled that one style of gear to fit Midlanders, which is a different level of undertaking to making all of the sets for all of the races.

(I'm not saying they shouldn't be unlocked, just that this is not so definitely breaking the lore-rules! Or it is, but sitting on an already blurrier line than there is between most of the other races.)

You're using character models to support lore justification which doesn't really work. Also, aren't Duskwights an Eorzean race? In which case them being Garleans means very little on a lore-front.

That's the strange thing! Why are Garleans using a distinctly Eorzean-Elezen pattern? Is it deliberate? Is it just being recycled as "a decoration" and not meant to relate to Duskwights at all?

Also there does seem to be a "Duskwight" race in Ilsabard - there's Shadowhunter's Elezen companion, and a number of people at the camp they visited at the end of 4.4, including the woman focused on.

I expect they're not actually culturally Duskwights, in the same way Far Eastern Hyur "aren't Midlanders", but they're certainly using Duskwight models.

It's almost like it's just undergarment with no true cultural worth and are race-locked for arbitrary reasons!

I should expect it's something along those lines, but like you said, that really butchers any cultural, lore justification to keep it locked. Because people without any obvious ties to aforementioned culture are using those designs.

Fair points on everything else, but I was talking about the tattoos here. Why are they being used by Garleans and are we supposed to read anything into it, or was it just a meaningless decoration they reused because it was "ready to go" instead of making a new design?

(But then again, half the Xaela tribes are wearing Ala Mhigan or Thavnairian gear, so it seems the costumes represent whatever context they've been placed into, rather than being held fast to their original design intent...)

In the case of the Ivalice NPCs they're also actors and that can factor in too. But it's most likely what you said. Still, the fact remains these models were the ones used, while we very rarely (or at all) see the starting sets, which are the ones with the stronger lore argument
