Request: Hempen Garb - Racial Unlock

I really hate this idea. However, if it's so important to give Female Highlander gear to cat girls...

Wow! This isn't just about giving skimpy gear to cat-girls! The point you are missing is that some of us would like the option to cover up! For example, the female elezen set is elegant, simple and covers a lot more skin than the Roe top, I'd love to be able to wear that, and some of the other camises, rather than stay locked to a single, shiny leather halter.
More choice is good for everyone. Not every female Highlander is going to want to show a lot of skin, some elezens might like to show more. Where's the harm?

I guess the Elezen underwear looks a lot more "dancer-y" than the Hyur gear! And they could also be working with the expectation that someday they might get told to remodel all the sets to fit everyone, and now they've got a head-start on it!


Though, having an Elezen alt, I just wish he could actually wear those pretty sleeves under something. It's not how the game works, of course, but it would be nice.

Hmm, maybe they could unlock the basic hempen gear, and introduce some more "culture-inspired" race-specific gear that incorporates those designs instead? Though I assume they're edging away from having more race-locked things, seeing as they never gave us anything since these very old ones.

A big part of that is likely them trying to avoid situations like this very thread. And a part of it is, I like to think at least, the fact that 'racial inspiration' is a lie. Look at Hancock - he's from Ul'dah (I think?), lives in Kugane, but is Midlander. What 'culture' should he follow? And speaking of Midlanders, they're all over the place. Heck, Xaela - depending on what tribe your Xaela's from, your starting set should've been drastically different - but it's not! Furthermore, Raen and Xaela both have the same starting sets! And Midlanders and Highlanders too for that matter, and every other sub-clan. Which doesn't make sense when you think of some of their differences.

Doesn't look like the starting sets have too strong a lore justification either, if you stop to think about it...

Technically, according to the lore team (rather than the game programming) the Hyurans in Kugane are "not" Midlanders. They are Far Eastern Hyur.

Hancock is an Ul'dahn Midlander living in Kugane for business, who has chosen to wear local dress instead of his own.

And I do agree, the "racial" styles aren't very well-defined, for how strictly they are enforced! I'm fine with unlocking them, myself.

The sad thing is most of the male hempen tops look about the same. Go and do the time of my life gate where most of the races are wearing the complete set or parts of it. I'm still for unlocking and hopefully next time this gets asked it gets translated better.

Actually, while most of the female dancers are each wearing their version of the hempen top, the males (except the Au Ra for some reason) are all wearing the same Black Summer Top that you can buy in Mor Dhona. (Female Lalafell and Au Ra are also wearing the Black Summer Halter, presumably since their hempen tops are more 'cute frilly' styles and not the right look for the dancers.)


Male Midlanders have a normal tank top; Highlanders have the 'straps' that Ala Mhigan NPCs are often wearing; Elezen have the "sleeves without a shirt" as in the screenshots Billy posted earlier; I think Roegadyn and Miqo'te have crop tops; Au Ra have a one-shouldered drapey thing. Not sure about Lalafell.


Also none of the dancers are wearing the "complete set" of hempen gear - they are all wearing either Sailor Brais or sarouels, and not the pants that match the hempen tops.

Male Miqo'te have a shirt that is almost more strap than cloth. It looks a bit ridiculous from behind- would love to have more options for simple chestpieces.

How is that underwear? Since all of hempen parts in question used to be underwear. Now I'm scared to know what the Viera versions will look like q.q
