Anyway the event and earrings have both now gathered some kind of anger from the playerbase (former exclusive item and a event with a limited NPC..), thats is quite a first IMO for a event.

It's kinda a first for the Rising, to be honest. I mean, nothing beats those gift giving bell towers from 1.0, but this is supposed to be an event to celebrate the community, both of the past and present. It feels like the prior meaning of the Rising has become spun on its head to become something less meaningful.

And yes, an item in a video game. People pay lots of money for items in videogames. Of course not for this specific one, but it tells us that virtual items are maybe more important for a lot of people than you think.

You are a high end crafter, yes? Who invests lots of time to get tons of gil back? What would you say when they just give everyone the same amount of gil you have, wich makes the gil completely worthless due to inflation and all your work spent is redundant now? Would you just shrug it off like nothing? So many weeks of hard work are gone. That was time of your real life as well. But at least you have the memorys of the fun materia melding, fun adjusting prices at the retainers, fun waiting for the mats to spawn, fun crafting this item you need for the final craft a few hundred times... well, you maybe really did had fun, who knows? You would not play this when it was not fun to you.

But would you shrug it off like nothing?

This is by far the worst comparison presented on this thread. SE doesn't need to handout gil when people already do that anyway.

The early seasonal events in 1.0 were just a bell you clicked on to get a random item from. Usually food or crafting materials for the event gear.

I just wanted to find some virtual good Luna-M cares about. This comparsion was not supposed to compare the White Ravens with tons of Gil directly, it was supposed that Luna-M has to think about the value of virtual items in general, in response to this:

90 pages... 90 pages of people complaining about a item.. in a video game.

And if you want my opinion about the comparsion: I think the value of tons of gil is higher than that of the 1.0 White Ravens, so I agree, the comparsion is off.

However, I couldn't care less about the White Ravens, I am not even an 1.0 player. I was always talking about virtual items in general. People invest a lot of time and effort to get their hands on them. They should not be handed out later like it was nothing.

I finished the fight in 1.0 and forgot the earrings even existed sitting on retainer it's not like they are some sought after item that gives you an advantage. I also have Dalamud Horn sitting on my retainer that's completely useless, just let people enjoy the items.

I had the opposite experience.

In Omega, (before the recruiter spawned) we all gathered around with some bards playing music while we discussed previous events in the game, and had overall a lot of fun just socializing. I remember someone even saying "I wonder if the whole point of making us wait was to force us to interact".

I don't know how it went on other servers, but it was a really nice moment. Wouldn't mind seeing more of this.


The earring issue has happened, for me at least, exclusively on the forums. No one I've met in game (legacy or otherwise) gave a damn about it :b

Things were pretty pleasant on Balmung, too. People were chatting in /say and /shout about the game's past and future. A lot of people said they were excited for 4.4 and the upcoming expansion.

The vocal minority on the forum do not necessarily reflect the in-game community. Often, they're the sort of individuals who have long since fallen out of love with the game but addiction and other factors keeps them subscribing.

I was more then shocked when i saw white ravens obtainable in game. I'm not sure how i feel about that especially costing just 50 tokens lol. I'd like to know the number of legacy players that even had white ravens and how many still have active subs, because that number decays more and more each day. It's not that legacy players don't wear them it's more like they don't have them. Rip to one of the rarest items in game.
