I think the biggest letdown since the earrings went live was the fact that the event instance didn't even have Nael spawn.
Yeah the cities had beasts roaming, so it emulated that to an extent. But then you'd have cheeky GMs that'd drop Nael van Darnus right in the streets. Sometimes like 3 Darnuses at once.
Unless I missed something in the fate chain instabce (someone tell me I did!), it was a missed opportunity to fight his 1.0 model again. Bradamante and all.
Agreed. I have some very nice Guatemalan coffee going right now. :3

That is something even I will say disappointed me. I've seen videos where GM's would appear and play around as Nael van Darnus (mostly spamming Fierce Ravensbeak) and was hoping for there to be a FATE that would have the White Raven herself in it... or two or three. That was something I was hoping to see!
Unless SE are saving it for the last day of The Rising event... I doubt it, but that'd definitely be a way to emulate the Seventh Umbral Era event (and instead of GM's, have random players enter the instance as Nael and/or monsters. Extremely unlikely, but imagine how neat that would be).
Why does the time the item was last releaseed matter though? The point of the matter is the argument of “It wasn’t promised/advetised to stay with Legacy” has long been shot down. We have actual quotes and context from the team itself confirming that yes they were suppose to not only stay closed off to Legacy but made only available to the Legacy players who completed the task for the Seventh Umbral Era. The time that has passed is irrelevant.
Lets put it this way, and I know im using this game a lot for examples, during the launch of China’s Warframe they released Founder Items to their playerbase. Do you know what happened? There was community wide anger because these items were promised to never be relased again. The devs had to act quick and shut it down, to be fair it was the Chinese company that released them, because they know how much trust matters with these kind of games, games that rely heavily on player count. Did it matter that years had passed since the items release? No because they knew if they wanted their player’s trust they’d have to uphold promises made regardless of the time that has passed.
Like I’ve stated before were it not for actual promises/advertisements confirming their exclusivity my only rant would be the lackluster content associated with them given the trophy status they originally had. I think many would have loved a recreation of Nael’s original fight and having to fight her with Tanks who only have 4k health and the like.

Pretty much every variation of "air miles" , "movie rewards points", and "hotel stay points" are like this. You know why they do it at all though? Because it's essentially a loan against future profits. So if you can make your books look better this year to investors, investors will stay. Then you just devalue those reward points every year to stay solvent.
I kid you not, reward points are a scam, but they're a scam against the existing price of things. So air travel prices are impaired by the cost of fuel, so if you collect 1000 miles when fuel cost are low and redeem it when they are high, the company has in fact lost money by you redeeming it. They make money when people just never do, and hence why many point systems expire. Use-it-or-lose it point systems are straight up scams, and you are paying for it through higher initial prices.
In the case of SE, they can pretty much say whatever they want, they are beholden to shareholders, and if the board says to scalp FFXIV profits in favor of rubbish mobile games that are insanely profitable at the risk of being cracked down on for gambling, then they are going to do that. No MMO is ever going to be an altruistic venture. You can find free content all over the internet without piracy, but the people who make that content don't make it while being homeless. No, the fact that it's basically impossible to steal a MMO subscriber base by coming out with a better cheaper game is the thing that runs counter to common business practices. People do not play a MMO because it's cheap content, they play it because it's fun. When it stops being fun, then they move on to another game.
People are not going to quit playing a MMO over any specific reward the game offers, sure people may say that it shows how tactless or greedy the developer/publisher is getting, but if players really cared about not giving greedy developers money, they would boycott cash shops of the games they play and force them to go back to "subscription-only" like all the other content that was once free until the ad market collapsed from greed.
Here's what I don't quiet understand. People like to reference this post with the comments made by the dev team and community staff.
I don't write this to disparage your memories or belittle anyone's opinion...
But in all actuality - they don't owe you anything.
We are paying a subscription to essentially "rent" the game from month to month. They've already stated in their TOS that they can change anything at any time. That's kind of the final say of things and pretty much covers them from a business and legal standpoint.
If you don't like how things are developing, by all means, come here and voice your opinion. But be aware too that others are going to disagree with you and have their own opinions and no amount of proof or quotes or anything is going to change the minds of the most stalwart users (on both sides of the camp) at the end of the day.
In my mind, it would have been a gesture of goodwill and a nod to the old players to make this fight available as it was in 1.0 so that we could experience it as legacy players did (as closely as possible). This way, we could have earned the earrings in a similar way. But for whatever reason, the devs chose not to pursue this path.
Perhaps this is their way of saying 'listen, you've had these things long enough. You've had your moment in the sun and we are bridging the gap between those who have rare things and those who did not/could not obtain them, because there will be new, rare things to obtain." I think at this point, the only holdouts left are PVP items from Feast and things tied to physical items that can't be ordered anymore.
I think they'll be either making new runs of the physical things or, if that's not cost efficient, maybe putting them on the mog station. We've gotten things that were supposed to be exclusive to China/Korea only in our cash shop because users asked for them.
I'm looking forward to using my wolf collars for something other than weapons. It has already been stated that mounts are coming and that they're reviewing PVP rewards. So take "exclusivity" with a grain of salt, as you should in a game that you are "renting". There will be new things to collect and be proud of.
"We want bunny suits for guys!" -- OK! ✅
"We want Ishgard housing!" -- OK! ✅
"We want Viera!" -- OK! ✅
"We want Cloud's motorcycle!" -- OK! ✅
"We want Blue Mage!"-- OK! ✅
"We want the ability to earn past Feast rewards!" - HAHA no that's sacred.
Maybe if those that dont care about the topic woudl stop posting how its still active it would die faster? Since you kinda put it back on the first page with such a post and also get reactions to it too. But thats just me.
Anyway the event and earrings have both now gathered some kind of anger from the playerbase (former exclusive item and a event with a limited NPC..), thats is quite a first IMO for a event.

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
I hope this thread hits 100+ pages it has provided me with great entertainment.
