Toxic entitlement is pretty gross. People are so used to having everything handed to them over time so they always think items that show you did something hard/noteworthy should be given to THEM FOR FREE. Really sad.

If you're referring to what I think you're referring to then you should probably be aware that the majority of the people in this thread didn't even knew these existed until OP mentioned it, or the numerous threads that got removed. Furthermore, the remainder of these people could probably not care less whether they got these items or not, much less complain about it.

Here's the icing on the cake, nobody asked for it, and the majority of this people are not wanting them as handouts, but rather arguing why people are getting so upset over an item that was over 6 years ago being released as a commemorative item. Read the comments next time. Nobody asked for it, nobody expected it until the announcement.

Personally, outside of them being commemorative, I couldn't care less about these earrings. I care for the minion and the orchestra roll, like the majority here probably do. Most people won't even use the earrings, nor will they care about them, and again, nor do they even know the origins.

Toxic entitlement in that when people see items that hold extra value for doing something hard/important/timelimited/etc. being given basically for free are actually defending it being given out for free. you say you yourself don't care. If you REALLY didn't care why would you argue for it to be given for free?

Some food for thought champ. Deep down inside you do care that people are considered special for doing something you can't, so that is why you don't defend the idea that exclusive items should remain exclusive to those who actually did the content the right way.

Because letting an ever shrinking pool of particularly needy and temperamental players hold the game and the potential enjoyment of all future players hostage to avoid upsetting them is a generally poor decision in terms of both business and game design.

I don't intend to use them, but deserving them or not is beside the point as they'll be made available. Your feelings about that are immaterial. Regardless, the point is that players who require the game to manage their emotions for them and are highly sensitive to game changes that may potentially diminish their self-worth are in fact a blight on MMORPGs and if it comes down to catering to them or cutting them loose, the game is probably better off cutting them loose.

Oh, right. Exactly what you described because an item exists that isn't available. Someone earned it when it was available and they didn't know about it or weren't even playing and it really burns their bottoms.

Probably because it's a commemorative item, that in the eyes of some logical folk would be seen as celebrating the events that they witnessed, that's my only defence for it. Whether or not they're handed out and how easily obtainable they shall be will be judgement that I withhold until I've, you know, participated in the event?

I care if someone has a car, and I don't. I care if my friends get a Distinction on their Master's course and I don't. I care whether I have a menial job or not whilst my previous friends are working successful jobs. I care if I get the Cirina minion or not. Those are things I would care about. Do I care if someone has an earring that I don't? Probably not because my cute Au Ra's horns completely overshadow any earrings I equip which is unfortunate. Even if they didn't I still wouldn't care because the only earrings I want, or care about are from Proto-Ultima in Dun Scaith. I will state it again. My only extent in caring with this discussion is only about the idea of them using something commemorative to celebrate an anniversary. You know like people generally do? Whether they done it with a Nael minion, or something else is an entirely different matter which has not come to pass. If you wonder why I don't support the idea of naming it replica is simply because it develops the silly mentality that anything called replica is ok being handed out as a freebie. Not to mention it is Just an earring something which many won't even bother looking at.

It was a item given to people for doing a specific fight that was considered the hardest content. For you to equate it as a commemorative object is disingenuous.
