Unlike The Black Shroud which is supposedly taking up the vast majority of the the Eastern shore line in Eorzea. That alone should say there should be a middle ground between the two zones being plains-like with the vista of the massive trees of the Black Shroud in the distance.

Oh and the note about "new" zones in WotG...those were later added just so they could say "new zones" in this expansion, it wasn't like there were missing zones in the same sense of what is going on here. Those new zones were merely alternate routes that fit side by side with the existing zones' layout. But I guess if you want to call them missing from release you'd be correct because they were not there, but you are wrong in the sense that they were missing and were later added to 'fix' a zone layout problem.

Its just funny that people can say that its all fine, when there are a lot things that were purposely written on the world map that are not in the game. My main concern wasn't the fact that the missing zone is a problem NOW, but to better examine the world map and make the NEW MAPS fit accordingly...instead of this jumble mess we have now.
You're assuming there's a layout problem in XIV, which there isn't.

We simply travel northwest of the "missing" zone, bypassing it entirely. In the mock up in the OP, it's assumed that all zone lines are a direct connection, which isn't true. It's assumed we travel beyond what we see. It was like that in XI as well.

i agree with sephrick, there is nothing in the missing areas, you get a loading screen instead of a 5-10 min walk through a baron zone, its not a design flaw its an option for future development

What I have shown you is reality. What you remember, that is the illusion.

I'm glad SE decided to redo the maps in 2.0, because I hate how a lot of them are designed...

    - the Black Shroud feels like a series of trenches or a giant spider web instead of a large forest

    - areas don't transition into each other well. One minute I'm in a barren desert wasteland, and then in zone into a thick forest teeming with life? How does that work??

    - copy/pasta'd terrain in multiple areas

    - always a narrow, tapered path between areas

    - certain areas with obscure nodes and high-level enemies aren't even used for anything important

    Etc., etc.

Yea. At the very least they could have thrown up a static picture of how my character supposedly went from Thanalan to the Black Shroud.

I thought Pag'than was a beastman stronghold, quite possible that they will add that later. I've noticed some of the gaps, I was wondering if they'd close them up in 2.0

I just wanted to take the time to thank you for posting an actual good and thought out OP for the developers to look at. I don't see it as criticism at all. Well done man, I hope they take into account the fact that some of us don't blindly accept the map layout the way it is when they redo the geography. I always thought the transition from Thanalan to The Black SHroud was a little weak.

Its not that the area name in particular is the problem. Like I've said before and some other posters have reitterated, when the time comes for the new maps, I would just like them to make sense and link up appropriately, without glaringly obvious "worm hole zones" (as I will coin it from here on out for continuity) through out the zone.

Also when redoing the zones, like mentioned in another post by another poster, fix the boat ride (i don't really care about the water graphics, although they need a change as well) but at least let us see the southern tip of the La Noscea Region as we pass it. As it stands now, we just magically appears on the WESTERN side of the island without ever really passing by the island itself.
