gear doesn't help some savages and extremes unsyncOnce higher gear tiers will be released, eventually when it'll be unsyncable, people will be able to enter it no matter how horrible they are and just run around like headless chicken to avoid being hit while some decent players will finish Rathalos off. So yes. It will take some waiting, but at that point everyone will have a nearly guaranteed chance of winning every single time provided they find a group willing to drag them.
And besides...humans do get better. Rathalos is something people need to learn to do. Sure, there are some technical issues like high-latency that make it more difficult (possibly negating some play styles entirely if high enough), but those apply to all content, hard and easy. Most people if they will keep at it will at least be able to survive while still giving out some hits here or there. It's not like Rathalos demands reflexes and strategic thinking that's physically unobtainable by yer average, healthy Joe or Jane.
like people still wipe on Ifirt,Leviathon and Ramuh
also dont know how good that defense up buff on rathalos is at lvl 80
and its only 4 people compared to 8
so its hard to say right now

This reminds me of Leviabeetus…

Finally got my Rathalos mount today after 50 clears. Feeling happy. xD
My overall experience with the fight felt pretty 50/50. I have cleared as smn/rdm/pld with all sorts of party compositions. The fight didn't feel too difficult. There were some parts that were fun like the unique gameplay and some parts that were aggravating such as having the same person wiping us over and over again or getting one shotted because of weird hitboxes.
But one thing that I can say about this fight is, I never felt bored. I have felt bored in Tsukuyomi's add phase, and Byakko felt boring after running it 50 times. Rath EX kept me awake and on my toes because the fight is not completely scripted.
I just wished that the 3 deaths only for the entire party was not a thing but I can understand because it's MH. It is just, a tiny mistake from one person can completely screw everyone over. On top of that, the most frustrating thing while farming this was having 1 or 2 people constantly dying all 3 times even though the other members had played perfectly. I guess it's my fault and I'm too nice to replace the person ... but pugging this was super rough.
One thing to note about this type of gameplay is it's a little niche, so some people will like it, some people won't. I appreciate this collab because it gave people the chance to experience a completely new gameplay and discover if they will like it or not. If people don't like it, that's okay too.
Also, I know you all keep saying that there's no hard enrage in this fight but believe it or not, I have seen it. Three times!!! We were running 3pld/1 heal so the dps, I realized, wasn't good. I wish I had taken a screenshot, but if you want to go do an experiment, feel free. Trust me, it is there. Lol, He will fly up out of reach and casts his ult again.
Finally, I have some tips. It will mostly sum up the fight.
- If Rathalos is even looking at you, RUN IMMEDIATELY. Don't try and finish that cast!! Rathalos's ugly face = you're dead
- Be on your guard after everytime he finishes an attack, watch which way he turns, then adjust your position. Do that for the entire fight.
- Also, never look away from him (and don't blink?). The moment you do, he will be in your face, like Weeping Angels. I have the poison + burn marks to show for it.
Overall, it just takes quite a bit of practice but you'll get used to it. Keep practicing!
Happy hunting and gl! o/

Um...You do know that the ones you mentioned have instant-kill mechanics, right?! And those clearly do not care about gear. Some of these mechanics also require more manpower, like Sable when fighting Nidhogg in the dungeon which is an unavoidable instant-kill on a single player making it a super-tight fit where he needs to be killed before he uses that a single time.
Ifrit in particular often wipes unsynced parties because they try to brute-force through him instead of destroying nails. That's an instant-kill and it have nothing to do with gear. If he's down to X% and the nails exist, you lose. Simple as that.
Rathalos does not have any such mechanics (other than the big buffalo whatever). It is pure damage output to input. It is exactly the kind of fight that with good enough stat can be facerolled. Now, I'm not saying that it'll be like that at lvl80, but I am saying that it will be easy enough to defeat at that point that even unskilled/lagging players will be able to beat it.
The defense buff doesn't matter either. It still is downed and loses it. It's not like it'll lose the downing mechanic when you unsync it...
