There's a stark difference between "I don't want to use a potion for this dated content" and "I'm doing the basic functions of the job wrong."Or be like me and just have fun with what you got instead looking at some guide on how to do a rotation for a class/job that you main because buying potions and food just to clear Savage and Extreme is too expensive and is more of a chore... Also doesn't help that ALL ITEMS ARE ON A SHARED COOLDOWN!!!I at least need some gil for other things too.
Congratulations, your "fun" makes it more difficult on the healers because now aggro bounces. If you do ever attempt Savage or EX, you will be forced into the MT role because any good tank won't fight you for aggro. I certainly wouldn't.Or be like me and just have fun with what you got instead looking at some guide on how to do a rotation for a class/job that you main because buying potions and food just to clear Savage and Extreme is too expensive and is more of a chore... Yeah... I forgot to mention that I also us Dark Arts on on Syphon Strike and Souleater if Plunge, Dark Passenger, and Carve and Spit are on cooldown and I have more MP when I don't have boss attention in 24 player raids, because The Blackest Night is useless unless I have boss attention, then there is 4 player dungeons where using having enough MP for The Blackest Night is always a good and Dark Arts on Power Slash when Grit is off for bosses, and for 8 player raids/trials you always need to make sure you have enough of an aggro lead in case main tank dies or DPS are getting a bit too explosion happy...
I actually stopped trying to do Savage and Extreme because of not being allowed to have fun on those fights and randoms always make it way more stressful to the point where I almost want to spin the boss so that it cleaves the group because of people of that mindset you have right now. And I'm perfectly fine not doing Savage and Extreme because that content is not for me. Also, how the hell does aggro bounce...?
Because you’ll be spamming your aggro combo against the MT that is most definitely not going to be in tank stance or touching their aggro combo because the aggro combo on all tanks is a loss. That’s how aggro is going to start bouncing around.
In Savage, good tanks aren’t sitting in tank stance or spamming their aggro combos because there’s literally no need for it.

Good to know, and good thing I don't run Savage...Because you’ll be spamming your aggro combo against the MT that is most definitely not going to be in tank stance or touching their aggro combo because the aggro combo on all tanks is a loss. That’s how aggro is going to start bouncing around.

You still shouldn’t be spamming your aggro combo as the OT in any content where you have a co-tank (8-mans) or in 24-mans, though... This isn’t just a “Savage thing”... If you’re in a normal mode 8-man or a 24-man and you’re spamming your aggro combo as the OT, you’re playing incorrectly. There is no sugarcoating that, and you should really break the habit.

What you find fun, everyone else doesn't. My "mindset" is to play the job correctly. Spamming Power Slash, especially as the off-tank, is simply you choosing to play poorly and getting upset other people don't appreciate that.I actually stopped trying to do Savage and Extreme because of not being allowed to have fun on those fights and randoms always make it way more stressful to the point where I almost want to spin the boss so that it cleaves the group because of people of that mindset you have right now. And aggro bounces because any good tank will switch to DPS stance and never touch their aggro combos again. You will inevitably pull hate, and they aren't going to fight you for it.
The point of Savage content is to do harder content, and it requires people to know at least the basics of their jobs. If you have fun playing the job how you like it, it might not be how the job is meant to be played.I actually stopped trying to do Savage and Extreme because of not being allowed to have fun on those fights and randoms always make it way more stressful to the point where I almost want to spin the boss so that it cleaves the group because of people of that mindset you have right now. I can play PLD and spend all my mana on Clemency because I want to be off healer.
I can play BLM and only use ice spells because being an ice mage is cool.
I can play BRD and never use a singing spell because I just want to be an archer.
Etc...
You definitely have the right to play as you please, but in the best case it might be a minor nuisance (if co-tank want to MT, or if people are parsing, or all 3 tanks fighting for MT in 24-man raids), in the worst case it's an immediate kick out of the party (that is more likely to happen in Extreme and Savage content).
From personnal experience, I was farming Byakko the other day and a DRK joined the team. He insisted to tank the boss and was only doing Power Slash combos. In the end, even with decent gear, he barely went above 1.5k DPS, which is not even half of the damage of a decent DRK. Sure we cleared, but if everyone was playing this way we wouldn't meet the DPS check at the end.

This game is a lot more pleasant when you are willing to just take the occasional hit to your personal performance for the group.
In my static, if people arent using their tools, we remind them too because we are aiming for optimal play to survive savage tier content.
In PUGs, you almost always over gear the crap out of whatever you are doing. Dungeons, 24 mans, EX primals, lower tier savage fights (especially this late in the season). What does that matter? It means we have excess capacity in all areas, damage, defense, healing. So I can still win almost any PUG activity completely in defiance for example. So why should I be a stick in the mud and yell at some random guy ive never seen before to ride the line on hate when i can just use 1 more enmity combo or use a smidge of tank stance?
Peoples priorities are often backwards. In progression and cutting edge content you MUST ride or die. Max damage, razor thin margin for error. But in PUGs on most content you are well over the DPS requirements. So the priority should be safely and reliably executing mechanics and surviving. So suck it up cupcake. Use an extra enmity combo. Spend some time in tank stance to OVER mitigate and OVER enmity up. DPS miss that GCD drop that puddle/aoe a little further away to give AMPLE space to be safe. Dont whine at your healers when you died to point blank Head On to get 1 more GCD and werent mega shielded on train. Just walk the F back for 2 sec.
Ideally, everyone does their part properly and you dont need all the safety nets, but guess what, its a PUG. You dont know what youre getting so do YOUR part to make sure the run goes smoothly and play it conservatively. You will win more fights. Screw your parse. You are in a PUG clear party to win the fight, not epeen inflate. Go join a speedrun PF if that's your priority.
