I'd definitely prefer to be a Lupin to a Viera. But I feel like their heads might make it a bit difficult. They'd either have to change every head piece or just hide them like belts.

Lore wise, I doubt we'll ever be able to play a beastman race (UNLEEESS, THE PEOPLE IN THE GAME SEE THAT BEASTMEN AND HUMAN ARE NO DIFFERENT BECAUSE THEY BOTH CAN AND WILL SUMMON GODS. I think that was the main concern in ARR but I could be wrong. :'| ).
i could see the lupin head just being a glamor item
Well we already had a Lupin in Gridania for the Halloween event and they are treated as normal citizens of Doma (they don't really have a tribe and they are/were even 'conscripts' in the Garlean army, and we all know how Garleans feel about Primals. They'd consider killing Beastmen who have no desire to summon).
/\ This.
Lupins fighting by the Empire as Ferae Domitae Centurions, and the way the Bangaas talk about Rassler made it clear they were not inferior citizens.
Even if its not common in Eorzea... our Warrior of Light starts the story as a weird outsider anyway. We are a great exception on that world, like being an White Mage without being a Padjali.
Furries... *eyeroll*

One small thing with your logic they aren’t “beastmen” since they live with people and don’t live in tribes worshipping a primal
Don’t forget in world ishgaurd thought au ra people were dragons and yet we see au ra in ishgaurd
That being said I would love if this next expac had both viera and lupin as two new races
I would buy a Fantasia in a heart beat.
Roegadyns, Elezens, and male Au'Ra, the most physically different races in the game, are also the least played. Why would they introduce a new race that's even more different than everything else? Chances are people will just try out Lupin once or twice, then go back with what's familiar.
You forgot to mention Lalafell, which is the most popular race (in Japan). Lalafell and Roegadyn are visually different, whereas everything else can be mistaken for something else. Every so often I'll mistake an Au Ra male for an Elezen (usually tanks).
I'd also change into a Lupin in a heartbeat. If I ever change back to another race, it would only be temporary (like my FemRoe. I plan on changing back to a male someday).
