But if the devs do recognize and actually address the multitude of issues that folks have made lately, then I'l have no problem retracting every single statement I've made in this thread.

    Have you heard about 1.0?
Have you heard of how 2.0 was started, and what they learned from the previous failure?

Complaining is good. You're not supposed to like complaining, and you're not supposed to like reading people's complaints. It's still important to do so, when as players that is all we can do to show the devs what we like and don't like.

I'd throw the same suggestion you posted: if general discussions is too heated for you, do yourself a favor and take a break. It's so easy to address things you don't like with that sort of advice, feels cheap doesn't it?
You may think you're helping, but telling people to "please shut up, leave my game alone!" serves no purpose other than to appease your ego.

I will never understand people that feel like they have to protect a video-game, or the billion dollar corporation behind it. And this is coming from someone who absolutely LOVES final fantasy xiv. I've been playing since closed beta and in fact, my only ever complaint was about the recent mogcoins stuff in the future mobile app.

You say "quit ruining the general discussion", but a quick look at the front page of it shows that of the 20 top topics, only 5 are negative in nature. 25%.

If a minority of negative threads is ruining something for you, perhaps you are the one who should take a break. It seems to me you yourself are only focusing on the negative and looking for a problem that isn't there.

It's a General discussion forum. You're going to find good and bad opinions, just like in life.

Like I said in my specific thread, if the devs were REALLY concerned about the forum clutter they should create a megathread regarding the issue. But then that would acknowledge there is actually dissent and they're not going to do that right before a feature roll out.

    About the Original Post:

You do understand how effective protests work don't you? They cause a small amount of discomfort in an effort to make a change. You're unhappy, taken out of your comfort zone? Good. But things like (paraphrasing mine):

    2) Quit being a bandwagon on this train of "FFXIV is in major problem territory"

    3) If you want to go, then go. If you want to leave feedback for your dissatisfaction, there are places you can go.

    4) At the most, the mods will look at your thread to ensure no harassment, language, or serious personal attacks are occurring.

    5) Just continue to complain for no reason at all. Because that's how dissatisfied customers do things these days.
So regarding point 1 and 2 you're basically becoming the thought police telling people how they can think and how they can express themselves. Yeah, that'll go over well.

Point 3 The general discussion forum is a place where you can leave feedback. There's not really any place else that gets eyes, the other forums are largely dead. People congregate where the most eyes are on topics that are important to them.

Point 4 Now you're just trying to scare people into not posting their feelings. That's shameful.

And then in point 5 you just straight out go and try to insult people for things you disagree with.

Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]

I agree with the op for one reason. I remember a thread in which a poster was explaining why they are loving XIV and then those same posters who are complaining went to THAt thread and told the OP why she shouldn't like the game. THAT I feel went too far. So I can understand the OP in this context.

The reactions to this thread actually gives credit to Kaivac's point. This is not against complaining it's about how it's done and how ppl relate to each other while doing that.
Yet this is taken as a wish to censoring the voice, which is not

I actually saw that, what was it less than a week ago? Kinda ridiculous that those certain individuals need that much damn attention. But on topic my biggest gripe is that there's a new thread posted near daily, keep it in one bloody thread, instead of everyone making a new one to voice a repeated opinion.

In what will certainly be a minority opinion, I'd like to see the post per day limit get turned down. Why?

The problem isn't complaining. As was shown a page back from YoshiP's slide, people who are complaining by and large are doing so because they care. It's the ones who silently leave that are bad for business. A certain amount of complaining is expected, and even healthy.

Speaking as a software developer... is it fun to get complaints? No, not really. We all like to be praised. Is it useful to get complaints? Extremely. If I build an app for a client and something doesn't work well for their business, I want to know about it. That feedback can lead to immediate improvements in the product and happier clients.*

But what I don't need is the same feedback 50 times from the same person. That's where the real problem is. You get a few people who get really passionate and the next thing you know you have five ongoing threads all full of the same people complaining about the same things. That isn't useful, it's just noise. In that sense, fewer posts lowers the noise somewhat while still allowing the complaints to get through.

*(An old saying we have at the office is "the customer can't articulate what they want, but they know what they hate." Given enough feedback from one person, you can derive what they like from just hearing what they don't.)

I'm going to have to agree with Kaiva. Trying to hold an actual debate, or even discussion, with some of those people who are constantly derailing a lot of topics(some of which have NOTHING to do with what they are complaining about in the first place *coughmicrotransactionsandpremiumappcough*) tends to go down as anyone who is trying to get actual FACTS(not speculation that a lot of them are calling facts, or have zero evidence to provide supporting their position) being called a "white knight".

Do I agree with everything that SE does? No, but I won't attack someone based on their views, I will try and debate to see what about it they like/accept, and see if I can see it from their point(I may still not agree with what happens, but at least I would respect their stance if they aren't instantly hostile calling me names/trying to insult me).

I'm here to contribute nothing aside from pointing out how amusing this whole thread is and throw in a popcorn gif.

    Carry on.
