The thing that I have noticed and which bothers me, isn't the type of thread being made, it's that the atmosphere in some threads has grown particularly hostile.
I know feelings are going to run high when a topic is controversial but recently it seems there are a lot of people launching personal attacks rather than debating the points that have been made, nit-picking over semantics or just generally being rude. e.g. expressing joy that someone has unsubbed, telling people to unsub or simply going into a thread to say, 'I don't care'. None of that adds anything to the discussion but it does set a very hostile tone.

Honestly, if the users are irked by the amount of threads about these topics, there's no way the English community team and developers like Ferne and Corvin haven't seen them either. The West just has a different way of protest than Japan does and it's a lot louder and unruly. The main develops may not see this stuff but they'll definitely hear something about the discontent now that there have been so many threads made. We may not have official feedback on this, but there's no way some people at the company haven't been made aware of goings on.

I'm wary about it. I would be surprised if the devs did take notice of responses specifically from these forums, if I could be honest. It's not past the realm of possibility, but I just have a hard time imagining it. But if the devs do recognize and actually address the multitude of issues that folks have made lately, then I'l have no problem retracting every single statement I've made in this thread.

    Have you heard about 1.0?
Have you heard of how 2.0 was started, and what they learned from the previous failure?

Complaining is good. You're not supposed to like complaining, and you're not supposed to like reading people's complaints. It's still important to do so, when as players that is all we can do to show the devs what we like and don't like.

I'd throw the same suggestion you posted: if general discussions is too heated for you, do yourself a favor and take a break. It's so easy to address things you don't like with that sort of advice, feels cheap doesn't it?
You may think you're helping, but telling people to "please shut up, leave my game alone!" serves no purpose other than to appease your ego.

I will never understand people that feel like they have to protect a video-game, or the billion dollar corporation behind it. And this is coming from someone who absolutely LOVES final fantasy xiv. I've been playing since closed beta and in fact, my only ever complaint was about the recent mogcoins stuff in the future mobile app.

Ruining the General Discussion? What does that even mean? It's a forum you will get negative and positive threads and based on what happens around the game, threads will lean in that direction. With the recent news from the live letter no surprise the threads are leaning more onto the negative side. It's just how game forums work. For example when a expansion releases the threads lean more onto the positive side. If something bad happens (diadem *pukes*) the forums get negative just like how it is now.

If you don't like how the general discussion forum is right now why not take your own advice and just take a break from the forums for a bit to let things calm down if it bothers you so much? I noticed the general discussion forum is pretty boring sometimes so I don't come to the forum quite as often anymore until something interesting happens like live letters or new information from interviews which gives people things to discuss.

Also there have been positive threads but they just don't last long here are a few:

    http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...ng-but-the-app

    http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...for-this-game.

    http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...e-of-the-Azure

    http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...rbuncle-Attire

There are more which aren't negative but you get the idea. It's just people don't need to say much on positive things while negative things generally create discussion and potentially changes to the game which are needed.

Also this is from SE themselves. Around the time ARR released. So in theory what people are doing now with the unsub threads saying why they are leaving is what SE wants rather then leaving silently.

Let us all proceed to counter negative threads full of people complaining by making threads complaining about people making threads to complain

More negative threads complaining about negative threads will absolutely make all the negative threads go away.

This is the internet, angry people are always the loudest. You won't see a lot of threads made by happy people because they have nothing to say, meanwhile /angry/ people want everyone to know they are angry and why.

Congratulations: you have made an angry post complaining about what bothers you, you are now just like every other angry person on the forum.

If you really wanted to give the forum a less toxic environment why doesn't everyone fill it with topics about things that they like instead of complaints about topics they don't?

OP you are truly descending into a deluded narcissism now. Telling people how to play, telling people how to post on a forum. What next?

But.. this is a platform for discussing a game that we all pay for?

I wish more people would realize that this is a business we all have a contract with, which we accept when we sign up for the game. If something doesn't work as it should or could be improved people have the right to voice their opinion for the simple reason that there is money at stake.
I'm not talking about frivolous things like "I need more glams!" topics of course, but when gameplay changes or gets disrupted for whatever reason customer WILL and SHOULD complain.

An official forum for a game is not some safe place on the internet to share pictures of your cats and tell each other how special we are; I'm sorry if I'm bursting bubbles here but that's the simple truth. There are other places for that kind of things like your FC forums, FB or whatever.

Please don't take this as a personal attack, everyone has the right to voice their opinion on anything about the game and I respect that. But telling others not to complain or to complain less because you don't like the "wave of negativity" is not exactly right. If more people are making themselves heard than something is probably not working as intended and part of the community wants SE to acknowledge that.

I don't go into every glamour topics telling people to shut up because I believe it is not important, it would be pointless and disrespectful. Please respect your fellow gamers and respect their right to complain.

PS I'm not on a personal crusade against glamours, it's the first thing that popped in my mind lol
