I get the sense that it must have been - and I assume we're missing out on some fight dialogue now because we've steamrolled over to the next section of the fight before they've finished their script?
In the last few seconds of the Ultima Weapon fight, I gather that it was beginning to cast Ultima again because Hydaelyn says she cannot shield you a second time - but it's dead immediately after that. I'm guessing it was meant to be a rush then to defeat it before the spell wiped you all out.
I've also never quite understood what was going on when the primal essences get removed from the Weapon. The whole thing is over in seconds now - did we originally have to fight them for longer?
Also I went exploring in the Castrum yesterday after everyone left, to try to improve my terrible sense of direction there, and realised there are all those cannons arranged on the path leading up to the train depot. I guess it was originally designed that everyone would man the cannons because the enemies were too tough to take on with normal abilities?
That would change everything in a very different way. People wouldn't have been using it for an easy speed-run in the first place; fights wouldn't take less time than the cutscene leading into them; and people might be more inclined to wait for the cutscene-watcher because they actually *need* that extra team member.

I've tested the DPS queue a couple of times recently - 7:00pm Saturday evening and 9:00pm Monday night (GMT+11 on a server that has a lot of GMT+8 people). I signed up as DPS for just long enough to get my number in the queue, then dropped out. Both times I was #6 with an average wait time of 12 minutes.
Queuing back in as tank, I *did* have to wait - evidently the only tank in the queue - and got a partner in about two minutes each time. Although one tank promptly left when we got the Praetorium, and we didn't get another until the fight with Nero, so about 10-15 minutes between tanks queuing there I guess. Average times are average. (And I got to experience being the one doing that massive pull down the ramp! Haven't done that before because I'm usually happier to stand back and let the other guy do it, and suddenly there *wasn't* another guy... so, nerve-wracking but also pretty cool and I think I got it right.)
Other than that one person that dropped out, everyone who I've talked to in the roulette seems to have just accepted the changes - obviously the ones who are really unhappy aren't going to be there in the first place, but when we've got people who weren't previously aware of the change and ask why it's not letting them skip, they seem to be understanding of the reason.
I've had some fun conversations too. Everything from game lore to what flavoured popcorn we've brought with us.![]()
