Devs should program a temporary squadron to take new ppl through MSQ and take it off duty roulette altogether, time to move on!
Devs should program a temporary squadron to take new ppl through MSQ and take it off duty roulette altogether, time to move on!
Doesn't matter what job i am, just give me some materia and were laughing.
Then everybody I have ever met clearly don't know what they are doing, I have never seen ANYONE EVER in 3+ years sit around and desynth in a MSQ dungeon. They just stand there (or some jump about, whoopee). They had their chance to do this previously, but no - they decided to kick new players watching cutscenes instead. Let them out of the cutscenes, and that is precisely what they will continue to do (rather than minding their own business "desynthing").
This is their reward. I've no sympathy, and this isn't going to make me any more/less likely to run them than before. In fact (and going by the queues I have seen so far) I suspect the only ones complaining about this now were first in line to toss any new player that come into these dungeons. So now they can stop running them and everyone else (the new people along with those content to show these people some patience and help) will continue to do it.
Frankly, I'm actually glad steamrolling newbies isn't an "efficient" use of anyone's time anymore.
They are somehow taking their time and introducing more and more dungeons for squadrons..which are nothing more than helpers to level up your character...yet somehow they cant take money and time (these dungeons and its problems have been known for years) and find a solution that will please everyone or at least the majority? Since ARR we have seen more and more solo duties which bigger runs like the second vault one. We have squadrons now too. Are you telling me that they are somehow not able to change these two dungeons to something like that in years? Heck they could have taken the time and introduced it in 5.0. These two dungeons are very critical for the newer players. They are the first true finale of ARR and if they find themselves being stopped by it then they might just stop playing the game..this might lose them new players which they seemingly want to have.Because a single player instance or "solo run" version would take a lot of development time and resources and the chance of SE spending those on a much older piece of the game is very low. It's not NOTHING, but they'd be much likelier to make a small change like votes on the run or dynamic switches for the unskippable part than re-working an entire dungeon for one player + NPCs.
Taking their time and making it into a great long term solution is imo better than just keeping it that way..seeing that people dont like to run them anymore..and either change it back or change it constantly.
Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
Yet the content is still steamrolled because of item level people are still going to mass pull everything burn everything the only difference is everyone has to now watch cutscenes.
At this point may as well be consistent make every cutscene in every other duty follow this same formula. If no new players may as well force everyone to rewatch the cutscenes. Have every cutscene scroll just like the msq because new players apparently can all read and grasp the story at the same speed.
Not every new player wanted to watch 30 minutes of cutscenes.
As for nobody ever desynthing I already stated players who are efficient will desynth while waiting for players. Just because you never seen it in 3 years doesn't mean people won't desynth in duties and not every person who desynthesis items kicks new players.
Who is they that "kicked" new players? People who jumped? Players who desnyth?

No, the impatient who forced the new people to "watch at the inn" or be kicked.
There's no need to worry about other dungeons, unless the complaints about those mount as well. So be kind to the new guys.
I don't care if the new players watch cutscenes since I am not bothered by it. If I am being forced to be nice to players just to avoid forced cutscenes.. I will gladly take those cutscenes I won't be someone I am not.

On that note, can we filter a roulette to just not show up in our list? It's not quite terribly crowded...yet, but it'll get to the point of needing to scroll eventually.
Might as well nip it in the bud and let players choose which ones not to show. Guildhests would be my first pick followed by, because of the 4.2 changes, MSQ.
Everything you said assumes numbers we don't know.
I'm not saying that anything COULD or could not have been done. Just that it hasn't and it's very unlikely it will be now.
Not knowing any numbers how can you be so sure of the amount of people quitting because of whatever problem? There could have been thousands of accounts that showed people played till ARR finale then immediately quit. But I also do not know these numbers so i cannot argue majority or minority, just what they've done and what is likely to get done based on the path of past changes.
It still needs changes, it's not good for everyone right now, but it seems that they're in the mind that new players WANT to be able to see those instances as originally experienced by others and the devs want this to be the default and not the exception. I'm not defending their choices (though I personally agree the way MSQ used to run sucked for new people interested in the story) , I'm trying to suggest things that they'd be inclined to change rather than ignore as fanciful pipe dreams.
