Does anyone know how the system works with reacquiring “unique” items you’ve turned to glamours? I’d like to put the Gambler’s Boots in there for setting up plates, but maybe also keep the actual item on hand, so to do that I’d need to be able to repurchase the ‘unique’ item once I’ve converted my current one. Which I might be able to if the game doesn’t think I have it any more. Can I do that?

Maybe they should have done it so the image of the item gets stored, and the item binds to you but doesn’t vanish from your inventory. Then you could choose whether to discard it or not.

Has anyone tested out the plates with the Fashion Police game in gold saucer? Does it work or do you need the actual item on hand?

I think the description said your gear gets judged on its current glamoured appearance. So it’d work the same whether you use plates or just equip/glamour the old way.

When I first read that the glamour plates overwrote existing glamours on whatever gear you had equipped, I was dismayed. My first thought was "well, this is dumb", just like the thread title implies. Then after I let it sit for a while, I realized that was because I had in my head an idea of what the glamour dresser was supposed to do, and it didn't match what the design actually intends. The system is made to make it easier for you to reapply your glamour without consuming a bunch of glamour prisms and without glamour gear taking up space in your inventory. That's all. Once you wrap your head around that, it starts to make sense and the idea of it is actually appealing (once they can get rid of the limitations).

I'm still hesitant to use it, because I don't want to put gear from the mog station or stuff that's difficult to get into the dresser in case I want it later for something else. I've put in my level 70 job specific gear (since you can just buy it from the Calamity Salvager), but I'm hesitant to make or use glamour plates with it because I'd need to re-glamour my generic caster outfit after switching back from summoner to red mage, and I don't want to put some of those items for the "generic" set into the glamour dresser at this point.

It kind of sucks because I'd sure like to start using this system and see how it feels out (and free up more armoury/inventory space) but the limitations make me really hesitant to do so. I'd be so much more comfortable with this if you could take things back out...

You CAN put it in the armoire and place it onto gear through the plate system by selecting that option. That way it stays outta the dresser and you can take it out ...
Oh cool! So glad they put a block on that. It would have been awful to lose something you paid real money for.

Thanks for the tip about the armoire!

IDK if it works on on that exact item, but you can def use it to apply looks onto plates.

The temple knight gear is actually able to be put in the dresser. Someone bought it for me but I'm not that wild about it since it's very... white.. so I just stuck it in the dresser. Maybe I'll use it on my paladin later. But there ARE things on the mogstation you can stuff in the dresser. So be careful. It seems like anything that was a past seasonal reward is limited to the armoire though.

edit: I should also clarify I did try to put it in the armoire first, which did not work.

    it is completely wrong
    1. those items will not go in the armor
    2. it lets you put those paid items in the dresser.

you do not think it is convoluted???

in 1996 maybe id agree with you,
this is 2018, having to do that is not acceptable.

(pretty sure games that old didn't have nonsense like that on top of things)

I really don't. I'm not trying to be contrary either. Once I figured out how the system works. it's obvious to me what the system can do and how to use it to achieve what I want. There are limitations I am not pleased with, but we've been given assurances these will be addressed (once again. I am aware they've lied before).

So lets discuss what systems are out there:
GW2 : This is the ideal. Pick something up and use/dis it? You now just HAVE that appearance. You can change it to whatever color you want , whenever you want. Unlocking gear and dye is account wide. Most gear has 3+ color channels.

    Downsides:
Changing appearance has a catalyst you can technically earn.. but very slowly. If you like changing looks a lot you're going to end up spending real money on appearance change charges.
Armor type limitations, you can only wear light if you're light, heavy if you're heavy etc. Cross class appearance isn't really a thing.
Colors are RNG as hell. Earning them through gameplay is either super random or super ingame currency heavy for primary colors
A lot of the coolest looking gear is in their real money shop, admittedly you can slowly trade ingame money for real money currency.

WoW: .. I have no idea, I left before appearance changing became a thing. I hear they have a really cool system that took 8 years to get right and there was something of an early attempt that went belly up and nobody uses it. All hearsay though. I stopped before MoP.

Wildstar (this may have changed, I left before it went f2p) :
you have 6 outfits, You can change at anytime between these. Dyes are unlocked and you can dye things at dye NPCs using any color you want as long as you have unlocked it.

Downsides: outfits use the actual gear. This isn't a log it's just alternate storage
Dyes use money every time you want to dye something , popular colors are expensive to use and are RNG to attain or highly expensive to purchase for in-demand colors like black.
cross class appearances are not a thing

Destiny2 : there's no such thing as a costume, you look like the gear you're wearing. You can find something you like and add mods to kinda adjust it to what you want but if it's an exotic you're stuck. No Cross class outfits. This is understandable though since this is more of an FPS and silhouettes are important in PVP.

Secret world: Appearance has nothing to do with stats. Gear is all "talismans". Once you own an appearance item you can change your outfit whenever you're out of combat wherever you are. Since there are no set classes there are no limits to who can wear what.

Downsides:You pay real money for most of the good appearance gear. You can build up the real money currency with a subscription but that's still paying real money for it.
you cannot dye things, you need to purchase a different color if you want another color. There is some serious appearance gear bloat.

Everything is weird in it's own way and has it's own problems. Wanting things from other games is understandable, but learning another games systems isn't that hard and really isn't something I'd complain about.
