A MMORPG encourages people to work together for something, not soloing everything. Joining a party is not hard or talking to people. Maybe you find more fun in the dot hack series, it gives you the feel of an MMORPG while being single player.im confused at this...do yoou realize how flawed the system currently is?
Tell me..why should someone who tanks an entire S rank/Fate not get full credit simply because they were not in a party..when derpy mcbard over there used straight shot one single time in a party of 8 and went afk to go make a sandwhich and came back to full credit? thats a heavily flawed system
Allagans. It's always Allagans.
ALSO... Contribution is a finicky thing and acts sort of like enmity generation. This is why healers can just heal in a party and get full credit. The way it works for FATEs, though, is that you get contribution for your actions AND that of your party.
-Disclaimer: hypothetical situation below, numbers are examples and are certainly not accurate-
Let's say that you have a FATE that needs 1000 points in contribution to get gold on, but you as a solo player can only generate 2 point per second. That means you would need the fight to last 1000 seconds to get gold... That's a 8 minute fight, which most FATEs (even World FATES) don't last that long if there's a reasonable amount of people there. However, say you join a party that has a normal comp, put tanks at 3 points and healers at 1. 2 tanks is 6, 4 DPS is 8 and 2 healers so you're now getting 16 points per second. That means you get gold in a little over a minute.
It's a numbers game and FATEs were never intended to do solo.

I hope that's a general "you" and not actually aimed specifically at me. I just party up.If you can't get adequate credit on an on-level FATE solo with your bird out, you need to take a good long hard look at your gear and rotation. The only FATEs where you really can't solo them on your own are the boss FATEs and even then we're talking most likely the achievement ones that weren't meant to be cleared by solo players in the first place.
I only mentioned that because that is something I have seen in boss fates and hunts where someone WANTS to party with nearby players but can't because of a queue. In other words those players aren't trying to solo group content, they solo in the sense that they don't join a party but they do have other players nearby, they simply do not join the party because to do so would mean losing their place in the queue. Because of that they might not get as many rewards. (and I also said most such players accept that fact no problem, but that I'm sure they would like if SE ever decided to come up with a different system in which they ranked better)
Also this thread was kind of aimed at boss fates since the OP mentioned Ixion (and then people went into hunts because the crediting system is so similar), so not sure why you felt the need to mention regular fates. Pretty much anyone can solo (actual solo) regular fates as long as they know their rotation and have appropriate gear , but that wasn't the topic AT ALL.
Just to clarify I do not think adjustments are necessary, they would just be a "nice to have", a QOL (in my mind). I'm quite content with the existing system but that doesn't mean I don't have the ability to empathize with others and see merits to their opinions.
After all, I also wrote earlier:
Well you asked "why" and you were answered. Whether it's a good system or not, well that's subjective.
Personally I find that even without asking for an invite there are usually PF up you can join without asking, or you can make one and incoming people will join it, so it's not really a big deal (and because of that I doubt the devs will spend the effort needed to fix something that can be so easily circumvented, regardless of whether it's good or not, especially when there isn't a general concensus that it's bad.)
Doing full tank enmity (or doing 1 hit as a healer and then going full heal spam) is one way to get full or near-full credit solo, though it's not guaranteed.

The formula of Ixion is really strange.
One time I got within the very last seconds of his life in range. I was Darkknight. I did 1 hit. FATE done. I got Gold.
Othertime I was the entire fight there as Summoner. Got only bronze.

If you where in a party both times that is possible because of what people explained here already.
Stygian ash does seem to help... never gotten under silver even solo when using it on ixion
Not sure why you didn't get 3 horns. When did Ixion fate once use the item to remove his shield and was never in a party just had my chocobo out and my summoner pet out and still got 3 horns from it.
Haven't read the whole thread, but did see it was pointed out to you that in a party doing a FATE, everyone's contributions are added to your own. As such, being in a full party is the easiest way to get the rating you need to get the spoils.
If you are a DPS, you can perform perfect rotations for the entire duration of the fight and it still won't be enough because it is registered as individual. You're not healing or raising anyone. You're not holding enmity from any enemies. All your doing is adding a VERY marginal amount of DPS to what is required to bring Ixion down on your own. Think about it? How much are you really contributing by yourself? It would take parser's to truly know, but I am guessing your best effort would probably contribute to reducing Ixion's total HP by maybe 2-3%. Hardly a silver or gold in my book.
I totally get preferring the solo life in an MMO, but for FATEs like Ixion, they are designed with grouping in mind. There is nothing wrong with asking for an invite, and you may very well meet someone who will help you obtain goals that also require grouping. You're only limiting yourself in this MMO by staying away from grouping.
Having previously read this discussion and everyone’s advice to “shout for a party invite”... last night I finally got to be in the right place for an S mark, did that, and all I got was two people telling me to look in the Party Finder instead. The mark was engaged before I was into the menu, and dead before I could get out and re-target it.
So, I don’t know if it’s a server-by-server etiquette or what, but apparently shouting for an invite is “the wrong advice” for my server, as I was told afterwards.
