I'd have to ask if people wanting this have ever played open world PvP. I have, and it's generally not that fun because it boils down to big blobs camping entry/exit areas to trap single people with their pvp flags up. The actual big epic fights wind up being rare and few between, but you get a lot of people ganking others and playing it as safe as possible.

This wound up driving so many people out of those games that open world pvp is no longer the default choice for several MMOs. By zoning it here you wouldn't have that of course, but you'd still see it die due to job imbalances and camping. What would anyone do if a party of seven warriors and one healer camped the entrance to the zone?

Any other MMO I only play on a PvP server. WoW I was PvP centric and enjoyed the areas that were *problem* areas. It takes tact, strategy, and craftiness. Which this game completely lacks. Player elements are always changing and never stagnate. PvE is just figuring out a dance and once the dance is learned than you have to wait for them to develop a new one. Lets see an example of a PvE dance. Ok everyone spread, Ok everyone stack, Ok everyone hit the bubble, ok everyone focus the add, ok everyone spread, ok everyone stack, To the left, To the right, everybody clap your hands, Cha cha now yall...

Also you can design the area/zone sooo many ways to prevent camping/barring entry. You can have it be that when you load in, you have to register, or toggle flag.

I've played EVE and several korean PVP MMOs, and there was very little "craftiness." There's a reason why people complain about blobs in pvp games...pvp in MMOs almost always devolves into a numbers game. The only time it doesn't is if they enable mass disparities in power via grinding, and that ends up worse. I played Aion at launch, and there was no tact in dealing with rifts; you either got ganked or ganked, until the high levels came in.

As for flags...have you never played a pvp game with flagging? Half of it is people abusing the flag system in one way or another, or taunting people to drop their flag. Or hoping you had a second free to turn your flag off to avoid getting spawn camped. There's no real effective solution to the problems of open world, which is why so much PvP is arena-based now.

Open world pvp didn't die as a game design in MMOs for no reason. If they introduced it here, we'd just relive the same problems that it had until it more or less died.

Yes. While I only played vanilla WoW and BC, the PvP I had the was the most fun thing I've done in that MMO. I have fond memories of accidentally going to an Alliance area as a Horde not knowing anything about the game, getting chased by other players and camped, only to bring a group of friends and fight back. I have memories infiltrating their city state subway instance, and pvping in on the railway there. There was also one time where I got attacked out of nowhere by a druid, and we proceeded to try to gank eachother all the way from the bottom of Stranglethorn to the top of the map. I even made an Alliance character to write to him afterwards, telling him that was epic and he agreed. It's not all toxic. Some people enjoy that aspect, and I don't understand why people who don't enjoy it can't accept that. We accept that you don't enjoy it. Do the same for us.
