Faking disconnects

They could avoid fake mentors by not adding any rewards.

Like I said, if you want to waste your playtime waiting for the guy to come back so you get your jollies, fair enough. Your choice. If it was me, I'd just get on with kicking them so I can get my shit done rather than spend time prancing about on my moral high horse.

I would say that it depends in the end. For example the one vault run, it was really obvious that this was a fake DC since he wanted to be kicked before doing so. If I am with people that I know, we will surely wait at least for his next log in just to see the reaction and depending on the time and where we are, they will be kicked or not. I mean if you have enough time left and are at the end boss, waiting some minutes will not be too much. If you are at the start of an dungeon and cant go past boss 1 then one should kick that person after some time because otherwise the run might not be done in time.

For people that DC without any telling before I would normally wait between 5-10 minutes, which should be enough for someone to come back if they are faking it (since they would want to play again) or if they are genuine not at fault for the DC. After that its sadly a kick if we cant go on because that would seem to be a bigger problem than just a simple disconnect.

Wow people actually wait for people who fake D/C? I have actual D/C problems with my internet and I always get back on as fast as I possibly can. Usually find that I've been kicked within less than a few min on any class. Really I've d/cd where all I had to do was reload into the game and was kicked instantly, didn't even give me a min to get back on.

I personally give everyone a certain amount of time on the clock before I say well it doesn't seem like they are coming back.

Occasionally I'll get net issues that cause me to disconnect and reconnect quickly (which boots me from the game and makes it hard for me to log back in).

This happens to me as well. I actually have a problem recently of 90king while loading into content. I just get a black screen after the DF tries to load me in and then I am stuck there; can't see the chat, can't see what duty it is just a black loading screen. It happens sometimes for any of the roulettes I tried to do. I've tried waiting a bit to see if it loads me in, but eventually I have to crash the game since it is just stuck on a black screen. By the time I get back to logging in it keeps saying "you are already logged into the game" and won't let me back on for seems like over 5 mins. I don't know why it does that. Usually I am kicked before I can get back on and sometimes I just give up trying to get back on and do something else. I've kind of taken a break from doing much outside of my weekly tomes recently because this keeps happening.

Then of course sometimes I just 90k out of no where even when in content or just in outside world as well. I've tried talking to my ISP, but you know how useful they are usually.

Really Don't think there's that many fake disconnects. Bet most is from 90k errors or from fires and bad weather. For me about every dungeon get at least one 90k error in them. Maybe all the fires is causing them.

If I'm running with my gf, it's not usually an issue because she can tell the party what's up, but when I'm by myself I've gotten "Welcome back, we didn't kick you and we plan on reporting you for trying to skip this dungeon" more often than not. Doesn't matter how many times you tell them it's a legitimate net issue and apologize.

Dude don't even stress about it, with the way the reporting system works in this game, there's literally no way to distinguish a "genuine" disconnect from an intentional one. They can report you all they want, but unless you do something monumentally stupid like declare that you're trying to troll them in party chat, the GMs won't do a thing to you.

Had a guy try do this in World of Darkness back in 2.5, wanted to get kicked really badso he could do something else (not sure why he queue'd in the first place, probably missed his drop) and he faked disconnecting twice but we just left him as is, he sulked about not wanting to get a 30 min timeout and never helped on any of the fights, in the end we won, he lost more time whining than he would have if he ate the lockout.

That said, sometimes you can get disconnected at the worst of times, got into a dungeon and my router decided to play up for about 10 minutes, rip 25 minute queue.

I wait. I can wait until the dungeon's duration expires. But my fellow party members are not as patient as I, so a rule of thumb is waiting about 5-10 minutes before kicking. That tends to give plenty of time for the person to come back if they were legitimately disconnected.

Related on the topic of waiting, I will wait out the timer on minions in dungeons/raids. I know it pisses those people off who don't roll (in the hopes that people will leave the duty before they roll so that they get the minion automatically) & I'm spiteful.

(I've learned to have this sort of patience during the Burning Crusade expansion in WoW, when people with Skinning would follow others around Nagrand to skin the clefthoof mobs before the player that killed them can. So I'd keep the loot box open, thus preventing others from stealing my skinnable beasts. Which got really interesting since I was on a pvp server.)
