I've only had the reverse situation happen to me once.

Just a funky day where the internet just decided to quickly reset itself in the middle of Sohm Al
Unfortunately they didn't take kindly to waiting two minutes for me to rejoin and I loaded up back in Limsa. Oh well, can't win 'em all.

Typically when stuff goes south I try to rejoin as fast as I can, faking a DC's pretty weak.

This doesn't bode well. I never fake disconnections. There are times when my internet hates my guts and boots me repeatedly. I don't want my party thinking I'm trying to get out of doing something, when all I have to do is leave. Honestly, I fail to see the mentality behind faking a disconnection. Speaking from experience, if someone has had enough of one duty, they've had enough of all duties, and the 30 minute penalty is of no consequence.

This wouldn't be an issue if players would just grin and bear it and accept whatever dungeon comes up and just do the dang thing weither they personally like or loath the dungeon. Sadly because of the trend of intentionally disconnecting to dodge the penalty, innocents again suffer due to the actions of others. I hope you get partied with understanding players that internet hiccups do happen on accident.

On another note I also wanna put some blame on how dungeons are implemented in the first place. I wonder if the whole intentional disconnect thing would be an issue in the first place if dungeons had a greater life expectancy then the currant and last patch.Along with dungeons being a loot only thing. Along with story dungeons being dropped down to solo instances. Just to cut down on the bulk enough to where roulette's wouldn't even be a need in the first place and players just que for the ones they want. Sometimes more doesn't equal better in practice.

    That is a mentality problem.

As humans we decided a long time ago that "guilty until proven innocent" isn't the right way to go. History is littered with the problem with that kind of thinking.

"Innocent until proven guilty" is a much better way for society to be. Then everyone is treated with respect unless proven they don't deserve it.

Then innocent people don't get treated like crap for something they didn't even do, yeah some guilty of fake d/c people might get away with it a bit easier because they won't get confronted on it, but unless they say something proving they were doing it on purpose then there is nothing you can do to prove it. If they do openly admit to doing it to get out of the party then report them to a GM with the chat logs.

I play by the rule of thumb that I'll wait 5 minutes before kicking a DC'd player. That's enough time to reset a router or restart a computer, but not so much time that our party is stuck in limbo.

    Accidents happen.

I also go by 5 minutes usually. If I dc it's because my game is crashing, but it's not that rare an occurence. However, if that happens 5 minutes is enough to get back.
The only time I actually faked a dc was at a roleplay event where I felt super awkward and didn't know anyone... But that's kind of a different thing than a mid-duty DC. Anyway waiting for a while is always better, as people stated before, it doesn't kick an innocent person and is annoying to people who fake it.

Being able to Netflix etc while you wait aside, that's pretty much cutting off your nose to spite your face. If I was faced with this situation as a fake d/cer, I'd take great solace in knowing it wasn't just my time I was wasting if you were willing to do nothing in-game for 30 mins in a vain attempt to punish me if I'm honest.

If you feel like you're doing right by doing this, then more power to you, I guess...? I personally don't see how it solves anything when you can just kick for offline and get on with your life.

I live out in the boonies and sometimes my internet just decides it doesn't like me. And my modem takes a solid six to eight minutes to get signal back, every darned time. Luckily it doesn't happen THAT often, but I always get so annoyed when I wait thirty + minutes for a queue only to dc and by the time I can get back in my party has booted me.

I mean, I get it, they aren't required to wait around for me, but man I would love it if I didn't have to ride out another 30 minute queue. XD

And it's not like most people are in such a hurry that waiting for someone would kill them, so. It's not that serious a situation.

Like I said, if you want to waste your playtime waiting for the guy to come back so you get your jollies, fair enough. Your choice. If it was me, I'd just get on with kicking them so I can get my shit done rather than spend time prancing about on my moral high horse.
