I think it was wise to bring a lot of "classical" Final Fantasy flavor to XIV to infuse it with nostalgia and history while things were revamped and propped up, but in the end, I'd like to see it all circle back around and raise OG XIV themes back up for a while. We're well beyond accusations of reinventing the wheel and they should be able to stand on their own.

"Bigger and better" has a tendency to eventually undermine a story's foundations, after all.

The Ascian arc has the most on the line, but it's also the most invisible. Hopefully it can be ended before it draws out overlong, but not in a way that feels like the game itself should be over. I want to see it come back around to Sharlayan and Mor Dhona, and ("with the reins of history in the hands of man") force us to start cleaning up things we never thought we'd have to deal with, or never even knew got band-aided over during the war of the crystals.

I want to know what was up with the giant sea serpents and why they're so much of an anomaly yet so irrelevant to the story.

I want to see piracy rise again in the New World's "Carribean", even if for a while we only hear the tales in Lominsa as crews come and go and the status quo shifts.

I want to see the Elementals / woodsin / greenwrath / wildlings explored again as the forest struggles to recover.

I want to see a few of those "better" legions of the Empire that exist only in hearsay.

I want to see whatever Garlemald actually is (for better or worse) rather than seeing it vicariously through the eyes of the conquered and the brutes they send to control its fringes.

EDIT: Oh, and I want some more of the old, boring clothes back, lol. Eorzean chic is increasingly polarized between [new, flashy, exciting, expensive] and [dirt poor, often not even clean]. Meanwhile, too many pieces that are still missing; the bliauds with variable broaches and chains, wooden (half-)masks without gems, upper tiers of ALC gown-jackets with the shoulderpads. Magnifiers never made a meaningful comeback. 2017 and you still can't dress fully like a 'Cuda officer or Wood Wailer or anything.
