You will loose the ability to equip Other classes skills, not the bases class.or as i said.. they planned to implement two jobs for each class.. the problem could be easy solved.
when you are into "just wielding a damn polearm" than chose the first job (or just stick to lancer).
when you are into a hybrid class, with more complexity and pet stuff, then chose the second job "dragoon".
Switching to jobs should define the playstyle you want to have. its for variety.
and some guys seem to have misunderstood the job system like it is planned.
Yoshida said, that you lose some abillities when you're switching to a job (some skills are class exclusive (Lancer ONLY for example) and some are job exclusive (Dragoon only for example))
so keeping that in mind it would make sense to stick to the lancer without switching to a job!
I have to agree with Tonkra on this; Why can't we just have both as separate jobs and be done with the discussion? There are hardcore DPS'ers who want to hit hard and not be inhibited in endgame by a wyvern pet nerf and there are people who want the XI-style Dragoon class. Personally I'm on the fence on this one because I loved my wyvern in XI but I don't want to be nerfed because I love being top-tier DPS right now.
It would be easy to write-in as well; something along the lines of a group of Ishgard knights who choose to tame and live along side lighter hearted wyverns against dragons or an elite group of knights who learn to control them. It can be written in without destroying the very foundations is all I'm saying.
Don't make us choose Yoshi![]()
Don't want the pet personally, I would rather Dragoon be a really powerful DPS.
Maybe they could make it so that if you summon a pet you lose some of your strength to the wyvern, that way both camps are happy.
Better yet, just grab yourself Beastmaster and go tame a Basalisk or one of those big red lizard things :P

Maybe I like Fairytail too much but thats kinda what I imagine when I think dragoon, have skills like dragon scale armour, dragon breath, dragon talon attack. Much like how blue mage would work except dragoons only can gain skills from dragon creatures
because Yoshi-P asked us for our opinions on having a wyvern or notI have to agree with Tonkra on this; Why can't we just have both as separate jobs and be done with the discussion? There are hardcore DPS'ers who want to hit hard and not be inhibited in endgame by a wyvern pet nerf and there are people who want the XI-style Dragoon class.
The biggest problem in FFXI was keeping the wyvern alive, if this was no issue in XIV i wouldn't mind it. Still I'd rather not have it, just to keep the damage from the dragoon higher.
No, no no a million times NO.
NO EFFING PETS. We don't want XI Dragoons Yoshida, we want REAL Dragoons.
Another vote for NO PET WYVERN!
It seems like there are many people in here "i want to have the most dps" -> [Removed by Moderator according to the FINAL FANTASY XIV FORUM Guidelines.]-> against variety
(sorry to say so, but thats what this discussion seems to be like)
it doesnt mean that all in all a dragoon with wyvern pet would make less damage it would mean, that the drg itself would do a little less dmg than before.
maybe it could mean, that drg+wyvern would make a bit more dmg than drg now after 1.21. on his own.
BUT me... is personally for 2 jobs. one for the wyvern loving community.. and one for the "[Removed by Moderator according to the FINAL FANTASY XIV FORUM Guidelines.]" community.
problem solved.
well lancer as it is now is a REAL drg... abillities like "dragon claw" etc.? or is it just me?
wohoo the "jump attack" is missing.. forgot about it

As someone who has loved the Dragoon class since Kain Highwind, my answer is a resounding NO.
I want real Dragoons, high damage and the Jump ability. I've hated pet classes in every single MMO I've used them in, and if Dragoons ended up with a wyvern like FFXI, I'd sadly have to pick another job. Don't listen to those live letter comments alone devs, there are plenty of fans that are perfectly happy, ecstatic even over your current direction with the Dragoon class. Stick to your guns.
Why not have the choice?
You call your Wyvern, you give up some strength or whatever and get your companion.
You dismiss it, your stats get back to normal.
