Personally, I can't say I care about the breath either. Why would they breathe fire?

Personally. I'm very excited about a Dragoon job where as the player I have dragonic skills and high-end damage ability. There will be pet-jobs I bet. Dragoon does not need to be one.

I'll pass on that 24/7 Wyvern pet, i would like to stay the critical DD i'm now and i don't want to share my powers with a pet.
I would be really annoyed when SE decides to make us into a pet class, so please refrain from doint so o_O
it would make more sense for the draggon to not carry a pet everywhere it went. but instead when it used its jump ability, as you came down a dragon swooped down out of the sky and burn your enemy in time with your strike then left. so its not a pet but an ability to call on the power of a dragon. also this could fit neatly with the combo system. as in you can only get the dragon to come at the end of a combo. othwise is just normal jump. but for the love of god no gimpy pet following them
What I have shown you is reality. What you remember, that is the illusion.
I see both sides, from DRG being my first 75 in FFXI, i enjoyed having my bird along with me but in end game as someone said earlier it was very weak and a burdon to others trying see things past this pet bird blocking there view it must have been frustrating.
And in a new game in a new MMO that is what XIV is at the end of them day it think we as Lancer-drg should get the choice and those who choose to have a pet have a disadvantage of lowered damage and lowered hp due to the spiritual link between you and your wyvern, others who choose not to have it could benefit from stronger damage higher HP and be great DD.
Both would have their uses and as in having your bird could be good support for those solo situations, and your character could have items specific job quest obtained items that trigger certain breaths when you use a certain ability and or weapons skill either that or only give your wyvern 2 breaths fire and healing.
not having a wyvern would have the benefit of being a great DD.
(i'm secretly wanting the purple AF to come to XIV) lol
this thread, tl;dr
but if they add a Wyvern to Dragoon it will just end up lolDRG again.

I'd much prefer Dragoon be based on the job from older FF's (Jump, good vs dragons) rather than being a Pet based Job. I think the Wyvern in FFXI was cute but would much rather have a different job based on having pets, or have an entirely different system to allow players to keep pets. It would be cool to be able to have a dog like Interceptor etc.. to provide small bonuses, could have different types of creatures and would be a much more robust system rather than messing with the class balance.

As much as I love and miss my awesome Wyvern in FFXIV, I'll pass on him in favor of having a solid damage dealing class that doesn't have to take the pet's powers into consideration when balancing is needed. Having a pet NPC with me at all times always made me feel like I wasn't alone, it was a great companion and helped me solo better. But when it came to HNMs and other end-game content, it was simply too weak. It died way too easily, was hard to heal and when it died you had to wait on the timer to call him again, although that wasn't too bad after they lowered it to 20 minutes. Furthermore he didn't really do much in these instances, didn't do alot of damage and wasn't good enough to heal thanks to the healing mechanics that were imposed on him.
So this time around I'd like Dragoon to be good at it's given role, which seems to be damage dealing based on critical hits. When it comes to MMOs it's better to be really good at your role than be a jack of all trades most of the times, sadly.
I for one don't! I made a poll in the lancer forums http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...%21-%28poll%29
